Golden Rock is a nice "eco-hotel" close to the rainforest of Nevis. You can make some nice hikes through the forest from there. It is not on the beach, however.
We stayed at Nisbet Plantation, which is on the beach: great hotel, with the friendliest service I have ever experienced, and excellent food. Much more of a local character than Four Seasons!

Last spring we stayed at the Hurricane Cove Bungalows. While not luxurious, this place was unbelievable! The views from our private bungalow (with private pool) were the most spectacular of any place I have ever been! We loved just hanging out in our open air room (which has a little kitchen and small porch - no TV, no A/C, no phone). The grounds are beautiful and there are two beach options within walking distance. This is not the Four Seasons (thank god!), so if that is what you are looking for HCB would not be for you. We loved it - simple, rustic, chic.

There are many choices, depending on what your expectations are. If you really want to be on the beach, and you want more of what a hotel can offer, Nisbit, Four Seasons, or Qualie Beach, or Montpelier are all good choices. If you choose one of these but really want to get to know the island and people, do some dining at the plantation inns. We prefer to stay up along the side of Mount Nevis at smaller establishments. You then get the breezes and great views. The accommodations seem to have more character and the hosts really make you feel at home. Golden Rock, Old Manor and The Hermitage are ALL great choices as far as plantation inns go.

Nisbet Plantation is an excellent choice!
If you do go to Nevis, you must dine at Sunshine's. It is right next door to the 4 seasons. Difficult to find on your own but all the locals know where it is. The food is devine (best grilled fish and ribs I ever had)& the killerbees (their signature drink) will have you buzzing by the end of the night. Enjoy.

I second Carola's recommendation for the Golden Rock. My wife and I stayed there last Easter, and enjoyed the 9 nine days there. Discreet dinners with candle light within ancient plantation stone walls, and great unhurried conversations during and after dinner with small number of guests. The food was an epicurean delight. Pam, the owner, and her pet parrot, made the place homespun and entertaining. The green vervet monkey trail was a half minute walk, as well as the trails to the top of Mt. Nevis. Robert
