Block Island B&B/Inn Suggestion - Mom's 60th B-Day!

Hi All - My family would like to take my mom away for a long weekend for her 60th birthday. We'd like to stay at a special, yet reasonably priced, B&B, inn or hotel on Block Island that is convenient to the beach, town, shops and activities. I have never been to Block Island so I'm really not familiar with the different parts of the island. Any suggestions? We will have one baby traveling with us who is almost 2 years old - not sure if that will be a factor, but thought I would mention it. Also, do many of the places on Block Island have pools? Thanks all! Any recommendations on things to do would be welcome as well...Appreciate it - Laura

I don't think any place has a pool...the one that did is now condos. Are you going during the high season?...mid-June to Labor Day... It can be very expensive for a place that is just Okay.

Some places are nice and some sound nice and are not. I would not stay right in town because it can be noisy in the high season. Some of the nicer and quieter hotels are The Atlantic, Spring House and Manisses, but if you expect really high-end accommodations, you probably will not like it. There are some places, like Champlains, you really want to avoid.

Hi Mei - Thanks! Yes, I am going during high season. We will be heading there during mid-late July...

We don't need 5 star accommodations - just something nice, comfortable, clean, with a little charm and hopefully with a nice ocean view and convenient location.

I will definitely check out the 3 you mentioned...

Any other recommendations?

The Atlantic and Spring House are nice because they are an easy walk into town, both with sprawling lawns that would be nice for a toddler to run around. Adjacent to the Atlantic and near the Spring House is The Animal Farm...very fun for the little ones to see all the critters. This place is new and near the beach and ocean, but I don't know anyone who has stayed here.

It's associated with the Blue Dory, but I hear mixed things about the Blue Dory.

I know someone that likes this place, but I have never been in it.

Do you live close enough to go check things out one day? I love Block Island, but it's not for everyone.

Forgot to mention one thing...if you stay at the Spring House, beware on a Thursday night....that is martini night and it is insane. Also, the Spring House and Atlantic.. sometimes weddings will take the entire hotel for a weekend so I would check availability ASAP.

Unfortunately, I don't live close enough to check these places out in advance. I live in NYC...

I have heard great things about Block Island, but have never been - hopefully my mom will like it
