Nevis Restaurants

Any suggestions for a restaurant with a view and fabulous food for lunch. In Nevis for one day only and it's my hubby's birthday. Was thinking of the Four Seasons, but thought there may be another choice. Would love to hear recommendations. Thanks.

Hello,
There are lots of choices for nice places to eat on Nevis.
FS is OK, but it would not be my first choice.
If you want somewhere elegant and gracious, go to one of the plantations - Montpelier or Hermitage or Golden Rock. (I like Montpelier the best).
If you want local authentic food but also want to have a nice view and be downtown where you can look around, there's Unella's on the water with very good food and nice (but not fancy) surroundings. They have very good food and are upstairs with great views of downtown and St Kitts over the channel.
A place with an awesome view of Cades Bay and St. Kitts is Tequila Sheila's at the Inn at Cade's Bay.
Oualie Beach has good food and a nice view of St. Kitts.
Although the plantations are not waterfront, and don't have the best views of all, they are far and away the most elegant dining experiences on Nevis.
So, if you are only there for one day and want the best service and food, I'd recommend one of those.

Thanks Diana. However, I guess I should have done my homework first as we will not be able to go to Nevis. We will be on a cruise and the ferry times on the day we are there do not work for us. We are so disappointed. That being said, does anyone know of a private charter from St. Kitts to Nevis? Also, an excellent restaurant with a view for lunch in St. Kitts? Thanks.

It's really just across the channel from St. Kitts and a few minute boat ride.
I would think that if you just ask at the dock, you could find someone who could take you across the way for a few dollars.
It doesn't have a view of the water, but I like Ballahoo for lunch on St Kitts. It's upstairs over-looking the hustle and bustle of downtown Basseterre, and the food is good.

Diana,

There is a company called Banana Boat Tours in St. Kitts and they have a Nevis Shuttle directly to the Four Seasons for $150 round trip. If it's only a few minutes boat ride I think that $150 is high. You mentioned that I should ask someone at the dock. Can you expand on that? Do you mean people with their own boats who are willing to take people to Nevis? Thanks

We had to pay the $150 RT for the shuttle when we were staying at FS. (Of course, EVERYTHING at FS is ridiculously expensive, that's why some people go there.)
$150 for the trip is way too much, but they can get it in high season.
Heck, you can FLY for $150!!!
I am very sure you could easily find someone at the dock to whiz you over there for $20 or $30 round trip, but not everyone is comfortable making those kinds of arrangements on their own.
In my opinion only, Four Seasons is not the be all and end all that some seem to think it is. The view from the restaurant area is not all that great, and we were not impressed by the food when we stayed there. In fact, we ate only a few meals there as we found much better fare elsewhere on the island - but again, this was our impression only.
If you are only going to be in St Kitts for a short time, you might want to spend time seeing the island and relaxing at a nice restaurant there (I'm sure someone could recommend someplace) instead of worrying about trying to get over to Nevis and back in a limited amount of time.

Diana,

Thanks again. I agree that $150 is a lot of money and yes, we could probably fly. I appreciate your suggestions. I think we'll see if we can arrange something at the dock when we get there and if we feel uncomfortable just stay in St. Kitts. St. Kitts is an island that I have never researched. Can you suggest any must do's?

What about Nisbet Plantation? We stayed there a couple of years ago and the food was great! Has it closed or something? (I noticed Diana didn't mention it in her list of recommendations!) If open, it is surely worth going - great location too. Golden Rock, on the other hand, I recall as a pleasant but very basic restaurant, certainly not 'elegant'.

St Kitts is gorgeous, and an island tour would be something you might really enjoy.
There's a large fortification there - Brimstone Hill - that is on the top of a mountain with stunning views of some of the other islands and a very good chance to see the vervet monkeys. (We saw a bunch.)
There's a new railroad tour that takes you on the route of where they used to harvest and process sugar cane.
There's a batik factory where you can see cotton batik being made and buy beautiful, comfortable cotton tropical wear. (I bought a pareo, shorts and a shirt, and my husband bought some collared shirts.)
There are some small but interesting hieroglyphs along the way.
Basseterre has some neat jewelry and clothing shops and some little bars and restaurants.
If you type St Kitts into the above search window, there will be some posts with activities to do there.

Does anyone know if "Bananas" is still operating? If so, my wife and I found to be excellent when we were on Nevis in April of 2002. The food was great and the food was FANTASTIC. I've heard a rumor that they closed due to owner problems ....just wondered.

Diana,

Thanks for the St. Kitts information. I think I'll take your advice about relaxing and taking our time and not rushing back to the island from Nevis. We love to explore and Brimstone Hill and the Batik Factory looks like something we would definitely want to do and of course go shopping. Thanks again!
