End of an era - my trips to Botswana in 2008
Hello everyone,
At the moment, I am not working so have plenty of time to travel.
Although the delta will always have a special place in my heart, for various reasons I decided that this year will be my last year to visit Botswana extensively and I will be doing the following trips:
April: Duba Plains (10 days)
June: Mashatu tented camp (21 days)
September-October: private mobile safari with Masson Safaris - some friends are joining me(15 days);
Chitabe Lediba (6 days);
Xigera (4 days);
Duba Plains (10 days)
November: mobile safari to Nxai/CGKR/Xigera with WS (10 days);
Mapula (5 days).
I'll be writing a huge trip report after finishing all these trips and will add some photos with it.
In between safaris, you can always ask me some specific questions about these places and my experiences.
In 2009, I only will be doing one trip in depth to the CGKR/Nxai.

Wow Johan, that's the way to end it with a bang -- what a year ahead! Will look foward to reading all about it and seeing your amazing photos.
Do you have another country in your sights after Botswana to start on in 2009?

Thanks guys,
From 2009 I won't focus on one country anymore. The plan is to visit less popular places like:
Bangweulu Swamps (Zambia);
North Luangwa (Zambia);
Niassa (Mozambique);
Gabon;
Malawi;
Katavi (Tanzania).
It will take me some years to do so because it's about time to do some other things in life besides going on safari all the time.
Greetz,
Johan

Johan - I know you are a Botswana veteran and I dont mean to undermine your knowledge which is definitely way better than mine, but is there a reason you plan to do the Green Desert with Wilderness Safaris in November? If it to visit CKGR, I might be able to suggest an alternative that I extensively researched, and might allow you to spend more time in CKGR.
If its of any interest, please email me at amol_karnik at fastmail dot co uk. If not, ignore this post.

I have never been to the CGKR/Nxai and the main purpose of this trip is just to briefly familiarize myself with the area before I decide how long I'll need to visit those areas in depth in 2009. I also know some of the guides who are doing the mobiles with WS very well.
I actually did the same in the delta when I started there a decade ago.
I'll e-mail you in May after my return from Duba so we can exchange some info on it.
Thanks,
Johan

Change is a good thing, although difficult - good luck in the next phase of your endeavors.
Who do you know with WS doing the Green Desert trip? I ask because I think we are as well in mid later December - I booked with Eyes on Africa what sounded like a wonderful safari, only to figure out later that it might be the WS Green Desert trip. The itinerary that EofA sent is just a tad different, so I don't know what we are doing. Guess I should ask. But, in case it is the same, I would love to hear your report, and suggestions for guides, and anything else you think might be helpful.

I had actually heard the unemployment benefits in your part of Europe were pretty generous.
Anyway, sorry to hear you are between jobs but its good to see you've got something to keep you busy.
And... seriously.... I look forward to the trip report and photos.
