A Florida vacation in September would be nice. The weather is usually very nice and most of the crowds have diminished. You could choose from numerous possibilities including the St. Augustine area, Miami and the Keys, the Gulf, etc.

If you are looking for those 3 things I would definitely suggest Newport R.I. It will still have a nightlife in Sept. and obviously the beaches aren't going anywhere, dining is also great. I think you'll have a good time. It's a fun town, beautiful with much to see and do. That's my suggestion! Have fun!

Cape Cod should definitely be on your short list. Beaches are uncrowded and water is still warm. Accomodations are at Fall rates. Restaurants are still open and the summer trafffic is gone.
Nightlife in Hyannis and Provincetown is still going strong.

Martha's Vineyard. I think all of the beaches open to residents only in the summer are open to the public by then. Warm sunny days usually, crisp nights. It gets even better in October in my opinion.

September would not be my choice of times to go to Florida...hurricanes?
I like going North at that time, sunny days, cooler nights.
The Hamptons will be nice, tourists have mostly left, you can actually get into a restaurant without waiting an hour outside in a long line.
5 days is a great long weekend, if I had 5 days in Sept. I would go to Montreal

I grew up in wrightsville beach, NC. I could not think of anywhere i would rather be in september than there. The beaches are as nice as anywhere on the east coast, and september is much nicer (and less crowded) than any other time of year. The night life is ok - there will probably be bands at either keffies or the raw bar on the weekend, but during the week, it may be quiet. The wilmington river front will be very active that time of year (about 15 minutes away). And the riverfront has a surprisingly active nightlife. Resturants - South Beach is the best deal/food combination on the beach. The Fish House is my favorite spot where you can drive up to by boat.... K38 Baja Grill has the best Margaritas and Fajitas ever, bar none (1/2 price fajita night on tuesday is a local hot spot). Rooms will be affordable at most places on the beach. Check out the Blockaide Runner or the Holliday Inn sunspree resort (newly renovated) both are on the beach. There are tons of other places to stay as well. Check out orbitz, they have good hotel descriptions and great rates. have fun

South County Rhode Island is a wonderful place to vacation. 100 miles of sandy white beaches, fresh seafood, golf...rest & relaxation. What could be any better. September is a great month too, the kids are back in school, the water is warm.

Cape Cod is lovely in September. After Labor Day, everything is at a slower more calmer pace. Beaches are empty as the kids are back in school.
Have you given any thought to Newport, RI. Great old 'bungelows' to visit, daytime sailing and wonderful restaurants.

I live on Cape Cod, and think that September is the best month of the whole year here. Warm days, warm water, beaches are uncrowded, traffic has eased up, cooler nights, and everything is still open.
