We are planning a trip to Grenada May1, 2003. We are looking for hotel information. Does anyone have information on Grand Beach Resort vs Allamanda. Or, suggestd other hotel?<BR>Thank You!

What kind of vacation are you looking for? There are three places that I recommend on Grenada...<BR><BR>La Source, for an all-inclusive vacation, with lots of watersports and a spa.<BR><BR>La Luna--if you're looking for a completely romantic getaway. Private, intimate, exotic. <BR><BR>12 Degrees North--A cross between a villa vacation and staying in a hotel. Definitely for a more independent traveler who wants to experiment.<BR><BR>

The Grand had one of the coolest pools ever. Rooms were run of the mill hotel rooms,clean,standard fixtures, beach was excellent there. Food was edible.

Hello Stancohee,<BR>My husband and I just returned from a week in Grenada last night and had a great time. We stayed at the Rex Grenadian and liked it very much. I did a lot of research before the trip. We didn't want to spend a fortune, but wanted a nice place and a great island. The Rex guests were mostly European and we are American. This was great for us as we lived in Europe for a few years. Europeans tend to be quieter and more to themselves than Americans. There were mostly couples and a handful (like 3 or 4) of very young children. We loved the all inclusive and were very pleased with the food. Meals are buffet-style. There was a lot of local fresh fruit and vegetables and very nice choices - soups, salads, three main dishes each night, many desserts. They served local dishes nearly every night. (Warning: Caribbean hot sauce is HOT!) We even drank milk right out of the coconut one night. Drinks were great, wine marginal, great local beer. They had a special drink every night which was fun to try, but we are not sweet-drink people. Entertainment was nightly and fun. The beach was quiet, tree-lined and beautiful. Sailing on 14ft hobies free to AI if you know how. Snorkeling gear is provided, and they had a couple of kayaks. Scuba diving is available for a fee. I heard they were good, but we didn't try the scuba. The location was beautiful and when we had our cocktails on the cliff where the pool and bar area are, we thought we were in heaven. However, I must say I was disappointed with our room. We had a sea view which was wonderful, but the room itself needed updating. Tiles were cracked, toilet stained, wicker furniture worn. We really weren't in our room much, and the balcony was perfect with the nice view. I was willing to overlook the room for the rest of the accomodations and also the price. It was a quiet, very relaxing vacation, with plenty to do (tours, car rental, etc. available right at the hotel). We loved Grenada and would go back to the Rex.

Grenada Grand grounds and pool were much nicer that Allamanda. I cannot compare rooms though, because we stayed at the Grand. Rooms were nothing special but servicable. We rented ($5 a day) a small fridge. I loved the sunset view from my terrace. Food at the Grand ranged from Great to so-so. Check out Cocnuts on the beach, for lunch and/or dinner. You can walk to it from the Grand.

Hi Stan,<BR><BR>I have to disagree with the all-inclusive option on Grenada. There are so many varied and good restaurants in Grenada, it would be a shame not to enjoy the taste treats. AI tends to isolate you from the culture of the island, and this too is part of the reason for going. <BR><BR>I suggest you check the Grenada Grand Beach Resort and ask for the new rooms in the 4 storey building. The rooms are 25% larger than the older rooms, and the view is super from the top floors. Food at this hotel is only so-so, but there are good restaurants within walking distance, and they are cheaper than the hotels. I would take the room with breakfast included because they seem to do a fair job on that meal. The grounds are simply very beautiful with 2 pools and a waterfall on the best beach in the island.<BR><BR>Do not accept the rack rate on rooms. Email or telephone the hotel and ask for a better rate direct with no commissions involved. Talk with Ms. Terri Greenslade and she will look after you. The Blue Horizons might be another option as well as the Flamboyant Hotel.
