I have been looking at doing a cruise on the Zenith in either November, December or January which goes from Santiago (Valparaiso) around the "bottom" and up to Buenos Aires. Has anyone done this. Can anyone give me specific advice on:
The Ports in South America
The Zenith itself
The weather at this time of the year.

I am also considering this Zenith cruise. What I really want though, is a cruise to the Antarctic (for more days than the Zenith does). I only see about three ships going there and they seem to be very expensive.
So I will be checking this posting also for info sent to you, Rel.

You can go to the Celebrity Cruises
site, they have a short description of
each port. What is really good about
this cruise is you have days at sea in
between ports. I find that if you're in
a different port everyday it does get to
be tiring.

We did this cruise this past February on the Celebrity Mercury, but in reverse order. From Buenos Aires to Santiago. As for the ports, with the exception of the big cities, they are not spectacular and the tours are rather costly. We enjoyed Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. Another must is the Magellan penguins which can be seen in a couple of ports. Ironically some of the more unforgettable experiences will happen while you are sailing as you pass tremendous ice glaciers and of course Cape Horn. Be advised the weather in Santiago may be suitable for swimming, but as you go south toward glaciers of course the weather will turn to freezing. The Zenith is one of Celebrity's oldest and smallest ships. This is a cruise you take because of the destinations and not for the beauty of the ship. The Mercury was somewhat larger and newer and the staff on board was great. We will be on the Zenith in March for a round trip from Buenos Aires to Rio and back.
