Where's the best kosher corned beef?

I used to live in a northern suburb of Chicago? I've been craving a great kosher corned beef sandwich on Rosens rye.

Ummmmm - you're making my mouth water for a corned beef on rye or a pastrami on pumpernickel from Carnegie's deli (NYC) Jack's in Baltimore used to have a great one too.

Jason, no no no. It is Second Avenue Deli, followed by Katz's and Carnegie is not even on the list as the aren't Kosher. Neither is Stage.

Leah,

Is Michaels REALLY that good? Do the sell CB by the pound or just sandwiches.
Do you know if it's kosher or not.

I'll be in Brookline in a couple of weeks and will check it out.

Thanks

Nikki, 2nd Av deli is 2nd av at 10th st. Take the 4/5 train to 14th st/Union sq, or 6 to Astor Place or R/N to 8th St.

Dick-

Michaels is new and are trying to build business so thier CB is excellent! 99.9% it is kosher.

If you're going to be in Brookline, then without a doubt check out Zaftig's on Harvard Street in Coolidge Corner. THeir CB is outstanding and IS kosher.

Enjoy!

xxx- Why can't you believe a place named Micheal's can't be kosher??

Brookline MA is a very diverse community serving many ethnic populations. The restaurants serve what the community wants and enjoys...

With the exception of Katz's, I would say that the best deli is not-kosher meat, the restaurant is merely "kosher style" in that they serve typically Jewish food. I would say that the best corned beef/pastrami in NYC is the Carnegie, and even better than that is Schwartz's in Montreal.

Leah,

Thanks for the tip. I'll be visiting family in Brookline and make sure we check it out.

Just curious, does anyone out there remember the original Jack & Marion's on Harvard St.?

xxx,

There really is no such thing as "kosher style". That's like saying vegetarian style.
It's either kosher or it's not.

But you are right, many places make meats and call them "kosher style".
