What is the most beautiful place in Europe to visit?
What is the most beautiful place in Europe to visit? My husband and I have never been to Europe and would like to take a wonderful trip there. We are from Michigan.<BR><BR>We want the most scenic country in Europe.<BR><BR>Thanks!!

There are so many different types of beauty in Europe. This depends on your eye! Here is my beauty list;<BR><BR>-Paris for its monumental beauty.<BR><BR>-London for its majestic beauty.<BR><BR>-Rome for the patina of the ages.<BR><BR>-Alsace for green rolling hills and picturesque villages.<BR><BR>-Amsterdam for a quaint big city.<BR><BR>If this is your first trip I recommend either London or Paris as a starter.Both have plenty to see and do and can offer a few good day trips.

i would recomend paris. i really loved it. it has a lot to offer ( museums, churches, shopping, and great restaurants ) and can do many day trips from there ( versile, a few chataues (sp) ). london i found dreary and depressing and not at all impressive ( exept maybe westminister abby and st.pauls cathedral ). good luck.

When you say "scenic" I tend to think of panoramic scenery, that is, in the mountains or countryside. How to combine that with one or two "scenic" cities is the challenge. Overall, if you are totally flexible in your itinerary, I would say you must see Venice and Vienna for your two most beautiful cities, and the Austrian and Italian mountains for the accompanying panoramic scenery. So I'd advise flying into one of the two cities and out the other; and I'd rent a car to go from place to place. That's really the only way to enjoy the scenic beauty of the countryside. And if you do this, you can wait until leaving one of the cities before renting the car, and turn it in immediately upon arrival at the other city. For my money, I'd start in Venice and end in Vienna. However, Italian rental car rates are higher because of the mandatory insurance. The Austrian rates will be a bit less, but you will have drop-off charges in either direction. You would need to check all this through the rental car company. Hi Susan, to reply to your question - a little background - I lived in Germany for almost 4 years. Since leaving there in 1981, I travel to Europe almost every 4 years. I just got back from England, Wales and Scotland. Spain and Ireland are the only two places I have not been. The most beautiful and scenic is Austria. The areas around Salzburg and Innsbruck are the most beautiful. I would be very happy answer any question (if I can) from my experiences. The Best to You!<BR><BR>

Susanna: Good question! I'll give you 3 places to start on your scenic American journey...<BR><BR>1. Grand Canyon<BR>2. Mountains of Colorado & Wyoming<BR>3. Maui & Kauai<BR><BR>Honorable mentions: San Francisco, New York, Yellowstone, Yosemite & Glacier Nat'l Parks.

Santorini, Greece; Positano, Italy; and anywhere in Provence, France, are my recommendations. So, I would say that any of these countries are the most scenic in my opinion. If you want to go to either Italy or France, I would definitely combine a major city (Rome or Florence or Paris, with a trip to either the coast or the countryside for a real flavor of the country. Definately do not spend all your time in a major city no matter where you go. Bon Voyage.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful responses. Yes, I should have been more descriptive in what I consider beautiful.<BR><BR>I do view landscape with hills and mountains and awe striking. Also, we would love to view castles.<BR><BR>Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Viena and England all sound incredible!!<BR><BR>In the United States, one of my recommendations would be The Smokey Mountains, also the state of Washington near Seattle because it has so much to offer.<BR><BR>Keep the wonderful suggestions coming, I certainly do appreciate it!

In response to Susanna, again it depends a bit on what you like but here are some of the USA's most scenic places -<BR><BR>Personal Favorite - Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Parks in Wyoming - In one corner of this state you get the most incredible variety of sites. Mountains, lakes, waterfalls, canyons and then you add all of the geothermal activity of geysers and hot pools. Wait that's not all, now you get some of the most amazing nature with bison, elk, moose, bear, wolves and many more and it's hard to beat.<BR><BR>Northern California - A little more broad of an area but you have the Pacific Ocean and a rugged coastline, mountains, towering redwoods and great vineyards. Not too far to go to Yosemite for one of the countries other great National Park's.<BR><BR>Grand Canyon, Arizona - Although it doesn't have as much to do once you get there the Grand Canyon is an awe inspiring site.<BR><BR>Northern Minnesota (okay I'm biased) - You get rolling hills, thousands of beautiful lakes to play on, the north shore of Lake Superior with it's beauty and waterfalls and the boundary waters canoe area. Top that off with the great summer weather in Minnesota (80's with okay humidity) and it's a great package.<BR><BR>Boston/New England - Boston is one of the oldest large cities in the USA so there's a fair amount of history on the Freedom Trail. From there you can explore out to places like Cape Cod or the shores of Maine for lots of great scenary as well as history (Plymouth Rock).<BR><BR>Finally, if you're so inclined, our newest 2 states are also incredible.<BR><BR>Alaska - Untouched wilderness (Denali park is quite impressive I've heard), tons of wildlife.<BR><BR>Hawaii - Great weather, beaches, volcanoes, fauna, fun in the water<BR><BR>Good luck!
