New Jersey Transit runs a train from Philadelphia to AC. Sorry, I can't help you on getting from PHL to the train station (there are two large stations in town, btw), but if you check the websites for SEPTA and NJ Transit they should have all the info you need.

This link will help you get your bearings.

Take the R1 Train from the airport to the Suburban Station (NOT the 30th Street Station, which is for Amtrak). You'll have to walk a couple blocks to get to the New Jersey Transit Station (follow the signs or ask for directions). From there you can take Atlantic City Rail direct to AC.

You can catch the NJTransit Atlantic City line train at Philadelphia's 30th Street station. For schedule and fare information, see--

For shuttle service, I'd check with SuperShuttle and Rapid Rover to see if they go to Atlantic City. If RapidRover does not serve the PHL-Atlantic City route, I'm sure they'll be helpful with info on which shuttle to call.
When we use the shuttle from PHL to South Jersey points, it is not necessary to have a reservation. Go to the ground transpotation desk near the baggage claim area to make arrangements on-the-spot.
(Paul, I think you are directing 'traveler' to the PATCO line, which goes only as far as Lindenwald. It may be possible to change there to an NJTransit train to Atlantic City.)
