Homer Alaska Tide Pools

My wife and I will be visiting Homer during a negative low tide in late June. Does anyone know where the best places to go tide pooling are? I've heard that some of the creatures you can see are pretty impressive.

Mike- I can't tell you, but there is a terrific place to find out right at the entrance to Homer at 451 Sterling Highway. It is the Alaska Maritime national Wildlife Refuge Visitor's center. They have a some nice displays, lots of books and pamphlets and really helpful staff. We walked in wanting to go clamming, and they told us the best spots, where to get a license and how to dig! The motel behind the center is really nice too (Ocean Shores), and has a nice beach below them, but I don't know if there are tidepools. Homer is a great place...have fun!

thanks to xu; that's a useful write-up. I do have a question. The writeup says that a tide of -2 or lower is required. Is there anything to see at -0.8 ? Is there any other place on the Kenai peninsula for exploring tide pools- a place easily reachable on foot ?
thanks.

We're planning a huge family gathering for this weekend's low tides in Homer.

Here's my advice: when you arrive in Homer - make your first stop the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center (it's on the main road to the spit). They will have LOTS of experts, information and tours regarding these low tides - where to go, what to look for, how to be safe. Have fun and DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA!
