Now I can take my fingernail clippers on the plane? What else???

I'm off to Spain this weekend. I've heard you can now take more items in your carry-on luggage. Anyone have the current info? Thanks. Lori

I believe I just read that if your finger nail clipper did not have that extra pointed nail file it was o.k. Do double check or put it in your checkin luggage for flights.

Check out <http://www.tsa.dot.gov/workingwithtsa/travel.htm>

Nail clippers are permitted in carry-on. And so are knitting needles, even though it doesn't say. Check with airline.

Of coures, for flight home from overseas, the US security regs not the only ones to consider.

Blunt tip scissors are allowed. (However, the article did say they have not gotten the word out to all security personnel on the new allowable items. Confiscated items will still not be returned if you can't take them back to your car or whatever.) Still no knives of any length. No hockey sticks or golf clubs. Canes and umbrellas okay if they check them out. Tweezers now okay.

Why exactly would one need fingernail clippers on a flight? Just how long will you be in the air?

I don't think people plan to use their nail clipers during the flight. (I certainly hope not -- yuck!)

BUT most people keep their clippers in their toiletries bags, which most people carry on, along with a change of clothes, in case their checked baggage is delayed or misplaced. So they have to think about which things they usually carry in the toiletries bags but can't carry on anymore.

There was a short item on this in the Wash Post travel section last Sunday if you want to search their site, they have a lot online. The only thing I remember is the nail clipps and knitting needles, but there were a couple other things. I don't think scissors are on the list.

I always carry nail clippers in my purse, they are handy for a lot of things, but especially if I have a hangnail or something. I also use them instead of scissors if I need to cut a thread, those plastic tags off new clothes, or something (and I think if you did needlework, they would be useful for that since scissors aren't allowed).

Nail clippers are used to cut the little plastic zip-ties that go on the suitcases in place of locks. I used the zip-ties last trip but couldn't open them because I packed the nail clippers and manicure scissors. But now, evidently, you can carry on the clippers.

That's a relief. I've been seeing so many people in the airport with their bags all secured with those impossible little plastic ties and wondered how in the world they get them open when they get to their destination since if they have clippers or scissors, they'd be inside the checked baggage. I've been envisioning hundreds of frustrated tourists biting these little fasteners open with their teeth.
Dentists of the world, relax.

You can get the cable ties at any hardware store. They come in packs of about 50-100 for a couple of bucks. I get the 4" white ones, and they work well. Also, you can tell if someone has been in your luggage after you've checked it.

How about the most important item - the corkscrew?
