My two teens and I are thinking of signing up for an 8-day tour, sponsored by the Boston Museum of Science. Any opinions about the following itinerary or hotels would be very much appreciated. (Please pardon any choppiness from my cutting their very wordy itinerary!) <BR> <BR>Havana: Museum of the Revolution, meeting with scholars from the Academy of Science, tour Old Havana with your local guide, including a visit to a Cigar Factory, Museo Historico de las Ciencias Carlos J. Finlay, Explore the town of Vinales and its natural beauty, explore underground caves and to go snorkeling in a beautiful coral reef, drive to La Moka, an ecological hotel inside of a specially protected biosphere in Soroa. Swim in the beautiful San Juan River, southern coast and the historic city of Cienfuegos, Botanical Garden in Cienfuegos, botanist from the Jardin will serve as a guide and explain about all of the beautiful flora. In the afternoon, explore the beautiful colonial squares of Cienfuegos; two day extension to Trinidad, Valley of the Ingenio's and visit the legendary Iznaga Tower, Colonial Museum. <BR> <BR>Hotels are Hotel Plaza Hotel, Havana; La Ermita, Vinales; Hotel Moka, Soroa; Hotel Jagua, Punta Gorda, Cienfuegos, Hotel Ancon, Trinidad. <BR>

that tour sounds great. while I have never been to many of those places, I have been to Cuba. it is a wonderful island..beauitufl and very interesting. the people are wonderful. <BR>I cannot imagine that you wold not enjoy that tour

Sounds great, but I thought it was illegal for Americans to visit Cuba. How come the Boston Science Museum can organize this tour?

It is not illegal for US citizens to visit Cuba if they meet certain criteria such as journalists and educational trips. You have to get a permit from the US Treasury Department. The MOS worked with a travel agency that put it together.

That sounds like an outstanding tour. It's a fantastic opportunity so don't hesitate .. book and go. Havana is an amazing city.

Hi Joanne: I hope you will share any experiences from this trip. My husband and I are taking our three sons,18,16 and 12 on a cruise in Jan.. We are stopping in Havana and Santiago de Cuba. One of the reasons we picked this itinerary(also GR.Cayman, Cozumel, and Montego Bay) was so our children would be able to experience the history and cultural differences of Cuba. I have seen a few walking tour itenaries on the web that you may want to add to your plans. I sent away to the Cuba travel board and received very beautiful and indepth books on the two cities we will visit.The books were in Spanish and English and were very detailed with beautiful photos and sites to see easily found on the included maps. I would be very interested in hearing how your experience was if you went on the tour.Thanks Karen
