Newport, RI hotels/B&B's?

I'm trying to plan a trip with my fiance to Newport, RI early October. Can anyone recommend any hotels or B&B's in the center of town?

My husband and I just returned from Newport and had a wonderful time. We stayed at The Willows of Newport. It's on a quiet street but is a short walk to the center of town. The service is warm and friendly and a delicious breakfast was served in our room. They really focus on romance. We would definitely stay there again! They have a website at thewillowsofnewport.com.

Francis Malbone...without a doubt the best B&B in Newport. Right in the middle of town but still very quiet and private. Beautiful and elegant interiors, but not stuffy and the staff is friendly and very helpful. Scrumptious breakfast too!

Hi.,..

My husband and I stayed at the Sanford Covell Villa Marina.. It was absolutely amazing.. Right on the water and really close to everything.. but still quiet, romantic and very charming.. There is also a salt water jacuzzi overlooking the water that is so great to go into with some of the port wine that is complementary from the library.. Really great.. Good luck.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sanford Covell house last December and we found it quite disappointing... he had wanted to stay there for years because he has a painting of the harbor that shows both his boat mooring and the inn. I made the reservation as a surprise. The place was so dusty we decided it hadn't been cleaned in years; the bed was terribly uncomfortable and the towels, sheets, etc had all seen better days. The owner was very strange and the house was filled with weird dolls. Everywhere. Would NOT recommend it. If this is a special occasion, I'd recommend Castle Hill, which is a lovely inn in a beautiful location. Do check out gonewport.com and look at pictures of the inns and b&bs.

Castle Hill is indeed a lovely inn in a beautiful location. It is also not anywhere close to walking distance of anything except Brenton Point State Park. You'll have to use your car for basically everything.
