We are considering Grenada for our next trip. I have one concern: my favorite Caribbean activity is going on daysails, and I haven't been able to find any listed for Grenada in the Internet. This may be just because the sailboat operators there aren't big on Websites.<BR><BR>I did see some charters listed, but I can't afford to rent an entire boat!<BR><BR>Can anyone who has been to Grenada tell me if daysails are available there? Do any go to Carriacou?<BR><BR>

Starwind owned by a Grenadian local, Masden Cumberbach is a class operation for a day sail. He has a beautifully cared for boat and has been sailing for many years. He will pick you up just off the beach for a wonderful sail up the coast that includes lunch and snorkeling. It is NOT a "booze cruise" though he makes a great rum punch and the cooler is full of beer (all included in cost). He does not take huge numbers and something like 20 sticks in my head but don't quote me. We have been going to Grenada for many years and always enjoy his trips. As for Carriacou you might enjoy the hig speed ferry. You leave Grenada in the am, head to Carriacou and then can return in the late afternoon. Once in Carriacou you can get a water taxi to take you to Sandy Island -- totally deserted and lovely snorkeling. Let me know if I can answer any other questions!

In the past, the Moorings offered daysails out of their base in Mt. Hartmann Bay ... visit their website (www.moorings.com) or give them a call to see if they still do. We took a daysail with them several years ago, on a Beneteau 23.5, and paid about $25/person.<BR><BR>As for daysails to Carriacou, I doubt that any are offered. This is a rugged open ocean passage, roughly 30 miles, mostly upwind, with 4-8 foot seas on a good day. On our sailing charter last year(originating in Grenada), even the most salty of our group was turning a bit green around the gills... The ferry is a much better choice.

<BR>I agree with the advice you got about the choppy sailing from Grenada to Carriacou. In addition, all that beating can be time-consuming and is often done under motor to supplement the sail. Hardly fun. That said, one always has the homeward leg to look forward to ! <BR><BR>I have sailed northwards in the Grenadines lots of times and normally found a half tab of dramimine before setting out kept the queasiness at bay. The worst, in my view, is the channel just north of Canouan. But I digress.<BR><BR>I agree with the earlier poster that you should take the high-speed ferry from Grenada to Carriacou. Consider planning your trip to Carriacou so that you get a chance to visit the Tobago Cays (pronounced 'keys). This is a huge horseshoe reef with great snorkelling in a setting that is pure Peter Pan. I went there with a wonderful local guy called Cuthbert Snagg who operates a powerboat tour service out of Hillsborough, Carriacou. He gets you to the Cays in abour 45 minutes and the ride is fun (not rough). I think he charged about $50US each for 4 of us including a simple lunch, beer and rum punch. He also supplied the snorkel gear.<BR><BR>I am sure you can find a listing for him at www.grenadines.net.<BR><BR>Have fun.<BR>

If you're interested in island touring, contact Mandoo at www.grenadatours.com He gives a great tour, knows everyone and could also probably hook you up with a day sail. Besides that, he's a nice guy!
