Passport for entry to St. Barth's?

I am getting conflicting messages. Is a birth certificate enough to get into St. Maarten and then fly into St. Barth's? St. Barth travelers, please advise.

We went through this scare in May 2000 when we went to St. Barts. My husband had only a birth certificate (raised seal issued from county health dept.) Delta told us when we checked in that St. Barts required a passport. All the way to Atlanta, we were freaking out and I was in tears. Anyway, a birth certificate was acceptable a year ago, but we were told then that the rule would be changing to a passport requirement. If you have time, you should get a passport. They say it takes 6 weeks but you can get an express.

I have an expired Passport and raised-seal birth certificate. Will that suffice? Don't have time to get a new passport!!!

If you have your tickets in hand you can get a passport the same day. For details call your local Passport Office and they will tell you how to do it.

Amanda-- I can't say what the rules are now, but if they haven't changed since last year, you should be fine. FYI- I renewed my passport last month, and got my new one in less than 2 weeks. Have your travel agent contact some official govt. source for St. Barts current requirements.
