I haven't really paid attention lately, but for years it was Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." If I'm out-of-date, maybe someone can help.

I think it is "We Are United Airlines and We Don't Give A Rat's Ass About You". Sort of matches their service and on-time performance.

It is a theme that comes in the last part of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, made famous by Paul Whiteman's orchestra and pianist Oscar Levant in the 40s. United also uses a very strange version of it in the neon-surrounded moving walkway between terminals at O'Hare.

(Score: currently a tie: Helpful Fodorites 2 -- Gratuitously Nasty Flamers 2. Expect further postings from the NF team, however; they can't seem to help themselves. Just hope this answered your question "Help.")

Me -- what on earth is the problem with someone -- in this case, a musician -- being able to identify the theme? If I were on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and they played that passage (which I played on the piano years before United took it as their theme), I would win a million in less than 2 seconds, since it's a very famous theme (or was)!

Good for you, Paul, for knowing the answer. And you still have all three life lines!
I am jealous of anyone that can play the piano, I got stuck with 4 years of violin lessons, YUCK!
