I am planning a trip to Sri Lanka and the only direct flight from the UK is on Sri Lankan airlines. Has anyone flown them? I would appreciate any feedback as to the quality of the experience. <BR> <BR>Many thanks, Pauline.

Pauline, <BR>I have never flown with them, but whenever my friend from Toulouse came to visit my family, he usually uses the Srilankan, it seemed to me that he appreciated both food and service very much.

Hi Pauline, <BR> <BR>We flew Air Lanka several years ago and it was very good. Great food, lovely service, on time departure and arrival. The only concern someone mentioned to us was that the company had a very small fleet at that time. That meant that if a flight had to be cancelled or postponed, there wouldn't be many alternative flights on the same airline. However, we didn't experience any problems at all. <BR> <BR>I'm sorry I can't give you more a more up-to-date testimonial. <BR> <BR>Have a great time!

Sri Lankan changed its name from Air Lanka when Emirates invested money in the failing airline. Their code UL spelt its reliability (Usually late) now SL (Sri Lankan) is waiting for a ful title. Food is good on long haul flights, but the curried green pea sandwich served on CMB/MLE sectors is my nominate for the worst airline food ever. Cockpit and Cabin crews are almost 100% Sri Lankan.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still undecided about whether a direct flight on Sri Lankan airlines is better than an indirect flight with Emirates (with a few hours layover at Dubai). As long as I don't get that curried green pea sandwich! <BR> <BR>Pauline.

i flew with Sri lankan airlines a couple <BR>of years ago and the service and food were brilliant..The airline crew were as helpful as they could be and i would certainly fly with them again

We flew to Sri Lanka with Sir Lankan Airline last September. The flights were late on both journeys. The food and services are relatively poor if compared to other south east asian airlines. Emirates has newer aircraft and the services are better. You have your own entertainment system which has six films to choose from, tv programmes, games and music (If you like that sort of things). If you want to stock up your duty free, Dubai airport is one of the best.

Pauline, I've never flown Srilankan but I fly Emirates all the time, they go from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and even Birmingham(!) Daily. Also you get a few hours at Dubai so the flight does not appear so long, about 7-8 hrs to Dubai and about 4.5-5 hrs then to Colombo, I'd say Emirates.

Since my original post (last year) I have indeed flown Sri Lankan on the direct London - Colombo route. It was a great flight - much, much better than I had been expecting. We were in new planes both ways, with seat-back TVs and a good choice of multi-channel entertainment. Food was fine, certainly nothing special, and both our flights left and arrived on time. The planes were also quite empty. I was glad I didn't do the longer trip via Dubai.

Hi I've just come back from a trip to Sri Lanka and flew Srilankan airlines - overall it was a great flight. <BR> <BR>Good seats in economy, good video entertainment and very polite service. <BR> <BR>I would recommend Srilankan over BA any day. Have a good trip

Jenny, considering BA do not fly to Colombo, its hardly fair to make a comparison
