Lucky you! Grenada is one of the most wonderful islands in the Caribbean, and possessed of classic tropical beauty.

For beaches, you should, of course, spend some time at Grand Anse -- it is Grenada's signature beach. But the next beach down (just a bit south) is my personal favorite -- it is called Morne Rouge, but also known as "BBC Beach" because of the radio towers on the headland on the north end. Its an intimate, pretty beach with a perfect crescent of sand bordered by palms; when I visited, it was virtually empty. Another awesome beach is at La Sagesse Nature Center. It is on the ocean side of the island, and could be tricky to get to, but if you make reservations for dinner or lunch, they will pick you up and drive you back. There is a creek meandering through the beach, and it has that lush South Pacific look to it.

For dining, my favorite spot is Coconuts, on Grand Anse beach. Casual but romantic, with local fare. It's right on the beach, so you can dig your toes in the sand to candlelight and listen to the gentle rush of the Caribbean surf. The Boat House at L'ance Aux Epines is also fun; decent food, reasonable prices, with a yachtie scene.

I do recommend going to Carriacou if you can fit it in (but be assured that a week in Grenada will just scratch the surface). Can't recommend anyplace to stay because we visited by chartered sailboat. However, Scraper's in Tyrell Bay is a great place for drinks or dinner. Be sure to order your meal ahead; many small establishments in the far-flung islands only prepare as much food as they have advance orders for.

E-mail for more information.

My husband and I visited Grenada last February. We stayed at Allamanda Beach Resort (which was new in '97), quite nice, right on Grande Anse Beach. The only downside to where we stayed was the water taxis beached right there. Locals were "cutting" up and making all kinds of noise, kinda ruined the beach atmosphere. We loved the Red Light Inn (near L'eux pines??), Choo-Light (chinese food for a change of pace, VERY good), Blue Horizons hotel has a great restaurant, also. I stil get a Spicy Islander newsletter from Grenada every month, i can share them w/you if you like. email me for more info.

I spent 9 days in Grenada 5/99. Loved it. Stayed at Coyaba on Grand Anse Beach. No problem from locals or noise on Grand Anse when we were there. Went to Carriacou twice for the day. You can get there by plane or much cheaper by the Osprey Express catamaran.About 1 1/2 to 2 hr trip for about $30/r.t. Great scenery along the way. I think that it goes to Carriacou 6 days a week. I was going to return to Grenada this year but heard that the west coast beaches were somewhat damaged by the storm surge from Hurricane Lenny. Figured that I'd give them (the beaches) some time to repair themselves. When I go back to Cariacou, I was considering the Green Roof Inn or Cassada Bay. Haven't seen either in person though. There are also several other hotels on the island as well. On Carriacou don't miss Sandy Island, Anse La Roche Beach and Paradise Beach. All were spectacular. Good luck. PLZ post a trip report upon your return

Went to Grenada last June and had a really good time. Stayed at Le Sport which provided it's own dive operation. They guys there were great! The weather was really iffy, so spent most of the time below the surface. The water was beautiful! We went to a site called "Shark Alley" and I actually got a chance to pet a Nurse shark resting under the coral. Also saw a lot of lobsters, eels, saw a couple sea turtles, an octopus and schools and schools of fish in the most beautiful colors!

I only got a chance to venture out once to the Market on the weekend. It ended up pouring, so it wasn't the most successful day trip. The island is supposed to have a lot to offer...I just wish I could have experienced a lot more. Hope you have a great time!
