Four Seasons Nevis vs. Caneel Bay vs. Anguilla

I am planning a surpise trip to the Caribbean to "pop the question" to my girlfriend this September. Want a relatively secluded, romantic locale with an accomodating resort and staff to help me get everything just right. Have thought seriously about Four Seasons - Nevis, Caneel Bay on St. John, or Cap Juluca on Anguilla?

Any thoughts on any of these 3 locations? Which of these would have the best snorkeling? Any other suggestions for Caribbean resorts?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Howard G.

Just another thought - look at Ottley's Plantation Inn on St. Kitts. We were married and honeymooned there and a couple got engaged while we were there too! It is secluded from the "main tourist spots", very romantic, and the staff is fabulous for accomodating any wishes you may have to make your trip a special one. They have a web page, and the Supreme Cottages are set away from the main house and can be rented as a room or the whole cottage - it even has a plunge pool and deck furniture with a gorgeous view of the ocean from your front door, not to mention a large bathroom with huge jacuzzi tub! Let me know if you would like more info.
And congratulations!

Also consider Malliouhana in Anguilla. We honeymooned there almost seven years ago. It was the most romantic, beautiful, well run resort we have ever been to. The rooms are beautiful (look into a junior suite with a terrace jutting out onto a cliff overlooking the water) and the staff and service couldn't be better. They also have one of the only 5 star restaurants in the carribean and an extensive, well stocked wine cellar. We have friends who went a few months ago and report that it is better than ever. We plan to go back soon.

I would recommend Caneel Bay. We just returned from there and had a fabulous time. The staff is very accomodating and helpful. I've heard that Cap Juluca is fabulous and Four Seasons is great, too. But, I've heard they both get a bit boring after a few days because the island activities are limited. St. John has numerous snorkling spots and hiking/nature trails. Also, you're right next to St. Thomas, Tortola and Jost Van Dyke--which add to the activities/exploring. I think that Cap Juluca and Four Seasons may have nicer rooms--Caneel's are very nice, very "caribbean," but, from what I remember, Cap Juluca's rooms had their own pools. E-mail me for specifics on Caneel. Good luck!

Howard.....I just got back from the Nevis Four Seasons today....I simply can't say enough...a beautiful small island with perfect Nevis peak in the center--the hotel is centered among a "south pacific looking" palm forest. The staff is very friendly and there is plenty to do---especially if you golf/scuba and like watersports. The Four Seasons isn't cheap---but they do things the way things are supposed to be done. I'm sure the other resorts are fine too...but I have a hard time imagining them being better than the Four Seasons
