Agriiturismo in Tucany

I am interested in finding our more about agribusiness in Tuscany. Would appreciate any first hand accounts of what they are like and any specific recommendations.

Also, as an alternative, looking for suggestions for places to stay in Tuscany (not Florence). I am undecided as to how much to spend, so would be interested in suggestions in multiple price ranges.

Tuscany covers 9000 square miles. You'll have to be more specific about where you want to stay in Tuscany and what you want to see/do... whether you'll have a car... what "multiple price ranges" means to you in Euros. What time of year would also be helpful to know.

We stayed at Fonte Bertusi and absolutely loved it. Great location nearby Pienza. Fabulous hosts. And the breakfasts everyday were delicious.

Look at Relais Villa L'Olmo, in Impruneta, not far from Florence but well out of Florence. Lovely spot and reasonable rates.

Have you thought whether an agriturismo is really for you? I love the idea in theory but experience has taught me that for us, evenings are best when we have a town or city to wander round, perhaps a late night museum or gallery to visit, a choice of restaurants and bars, and no need to worry about drink driving laws.

some have bars of course and restaurants [but not all] and some are near cities or towns but many aren't.

Good luck in finding what suits you best.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I have never gotten a bad recommendation from this forum.

Annhig, I appreciate your comments. That is exactly why I asked for input. This will be a break in our trip from more active sightseeing, and we're trying to figure out if an agriturismos is right for us.

A cautionary note- our family did this when our children were young. I wanted a restaurant on site, a pool and to be relatively close to a small town with amenities. We found a lovely agriturismo about 15 minutes outside Florence. It also had a lovely vineyard. What we did not know was that there was a band of thieves who had been breaking into the units and the owner was not exactly forthright.

It was odd whe he told is that we should hide all valuables and sleep with the shutters closed. Well it was 35' C with no a/c. We figured we were in a relatively rural setting and we did lock the doors, secured our valuables etc. And opened two windows to create a cross draft. I was awakened at 6 am by the property owner and the police. He had my husband's shorts in his hand. They had been draped over a chair in our bedroom. They were found outside.

We had been broken into while we slept. The thieves had come right into our bedroom. I am a light sleeper so I do not know why I didn't hear something. We were fortunate. We only lost a video camera. They missed the wallet and other things. What the owner did not tell us was that the same thing had happened the week before. We heard that from other guests. Apparently the police had a stake out that night at the top of the property but the perpetrators entered from below. They were never caught.

We were lucky. It could have been much worse. This was a reputable agriturismo. Though I had booked directly with the owner, this agriturismo was offered on various international and Italian websites. It was well known at the time. I realize that similar things can happen anywhere, but since then, I have always asked questions about such things. I was naive to assume that because we were in a nice property in a more rural area that we were immune from such occurrences.

If you choose this option, ask questions and do your homework.
