Paris vs. Vienna ----how to dress?

We've been to Paris many times & are planning our 12th visit in Sept.
Lots of black and a pretty scarf or jewelry works for me, along with black sport coat, dress shirt, no tie, works for MDH.

Now on to Vienna:

So, for dining, concerts, night stuff in Vienna----will that work also?
I read a Musikverin concert that said "black tie."

Since we tend to travel with carry-on luggage only, will we be OK?

(if you a wondering why I post each sentence separately ask Fodor's IT manager why the system does not accept my whole text)

For a man, my recommendation would be:

nice chinos (can also be worn during the day)
a blazer for the evening activities like dinners and concerts
polo shirts (for the day)
dress shirts (for nicer evenings)
a pair of nice shoes (for the evenings)

Sorry for this strange posting.

The problem was the line "For a man.." combined with the list of clothing items. This, the system did not accept.

When I posted it separately, it worked.

I used to work as a computer programmer when I was young, but I have no explanation for this system's behaviour. No special sign involved etc.

traveller1959, I have the same challenge with posting. It is frustrating to type a paragraph only to have Fodor's "not" post it.

That said, TPAYT, DH and I tend to dress up a bit more since living in Vienna when we are heading out for the evening, be it a casual dinner with friends or a performance; it's part of the culture here. Unless the event you are planning to attend has a stated or seriously implied dress code (like Opera) , your attire (and DH's) will be just fine.

lol, four4, it's the opposite here - since we moved to Cornwall I've more or less stopped dressing up entirely, and feel very much like a country mouse if we go to the big city where I hear tell such things still happen. I should like to be able to put on my glad rags occasionally.

I can't imagine what's good enough for Paris isn't good enough for Vienna? That's the question??

"Black tie on the plane"---LOL

It's just that I don't wear dresses or heels. (too hard to walk) when traveling.

In Paris I have found that black dress pants with a pretty jacket, along with a scarf, or costume jewelry serves me well in the type of restaurants we visit. And sport coat & dress shirt for MDH.

I keep reading that Vienna is a bit dressier and even though we are, & will look like tourists, we didn't want to look too out of place.

Ugh, I always want to wash immediately whatever I was wearing for a long plane ride. Or were you joking?
