Anguilla stay?

Yes, it's a bit older but our balcony was the closest (actually, right on) to the sand of any place we stayed.
Many beach restaurants and bars in walking distance on the beach. No bar or restaurant in the resort but you have a kitchen. we picked up some stuff at the grocery store for breakfast & snacks & went out for lunch & dinner. Zara's was our favorite, maybe a 10 minute walk down the beach.
Small pool at the back of the resort but with that gorgeous beach who needs it?
Our background---20+ islands. Would we return? Yes, except that it's a bit hard to get to for us.

Zara's is still on Shoal Bay, and Shamash is still the wonderful singing chef.
Affordable is a very relative term,but also look at Carimar and Turtles Nest on Mead's Bay.
Keep in mind you will get the best deals in the off season

Hi, based on your comments on this site and the amount of travel you've done in the Caribbean, I am hoping that you might be able to help me out! Trying to plan a belated 15 year anniversary trip and having a hard time choosing. Wife has been to Grand Cayman and St. Thomas and I've been to Puerto Rico, Bahamas and St. Martin, we went to St. Lucia for honeymoon so we'd like to find someplace we haven't been.
Planning to go in January for a week (a little concerned about temps), looking for nice hotel with spa, some good local restaurants with some activities (a little snorkeling and hiking). Wide open to suggestions but wife has been looking at: Nevis Four Seasons, Turks & Caicos Regent Palm, Anguilla Cuisinart, St. John Caneel Bay (quality hotel?) or Little Dix Bay????
I know, too many choices but it's hard for us to get away with 3 kids and we want to have a great time. Thanks so much for any help!

Maybe this will help to narrow down your choices:
1) All of the islands on your list except the T&C's are far enough south so warm weather shouldn't be an issue in January, expect daily highs in the mid-80's F. The T&C's are further north and could be a bit cooler, expect daily highs to be around 80 F.
2) Four Seasons, Nevis ticks off most of the items on your wish list. It has one of the best spa facilities in the Caribbean, there are number of dining venues around the island, all within a 5 to 15 minute drive, there's excellent hiking all around the island and you'll find plenty of water sports and other activities. The only drawback is that snorkeling around the island leaves a lot to be desired. The best area is accessible only by boat and you can see all there is to see there in about 30 minutes. Simply put, no one goes to Nevis for the snorkeling.
3) Little Dix Bay, Virgin Gorda has a very good spa facility, it's on a terrific stretch of golden sand beach lapped by calm clear waters, there's some limited walk-in snorkeling at the resort and quite a number of other beaches around the island with very good to excellent walk-in snorkeling plus loads of excellent "boat access" snorkeling sites. The island has some very nice hiking trails, all sorts of other activities and enough restaurants to meet your needs. in short, it ticks off all your boxes.
4) Caneel Bay, St. John - somewhat "spartan rooms" but otherwise a great option. Seven "on-resort" beaches with very good walk-in snorkeling, lots of other beaches around the island with very good to excellent snorkeling plus scores of boat access snorkel sites. 2/3's of the island is a National Park so you'll find excellent hiking as well as water sports and other activities. Spa facilities are good but not great. Lastly, the island has a good selection of local restaurants.
5) Cuisinart, Anguilla - island is flat and arid which translates to some of the finest white sand beaches (35 different one) in the Caribbean but since the island is rather flat and featureless hiking is not a strong suit. Resort has very good spa facilities. Snorkeling at the resort is just "OK" - you'll find better (but not great) snorkeling at other beaches plus even better "boat access" snorkeling. The island boasts over 80 different restaurants but be warned some, while amount the best in the Caribbean, can be quite pricey. While there's enough activities available around the island to keep anyone busy the island is best noted for beaches and restaurants.
6) While I've been to the T&C's I've not stayed at the Regent Palms so I can't comment on their facilities. The island, however, is similar in topography to Anguilla so hiking is somewhat limited. There are a few good snorkeling spots on Grace Bay (where the resort is located) but those sites are not really near the resort. There are some good 'boat access" sites around the island. You'll also find enough restaurants around the island to satisfy your needs but like on Anguilla some can be pricey. The main drawback to the T&C's is it could be cool in January.
So what does all this mean? Based on your wish list I would put your choices in this order:
1) Little Dix Bay
2) Caneel Bay
3) Four Seasons
4) Cusinart
5) Regent Palms

There's only "one" resort at Little Dix Bay - The official name is "Rosewood Little Dix Bay" but everyone always refers to at as just Little Dix Bay. It's operated by the Rosewood Company - they have two dozen or so upscale resorts around the world.
FYI, we first visited LDB back in 1985 and have been back multiple times since then. It's my favorite Caribbean Resort (and I live in the Caribbean).

RoamsAround has a good handle on the more upscale resorts. We've been to all the above places but have rented privately or been on a sailboat. Since we are not the "spa" type people I can't comment on any of that.
I agree that TCI and Bahamas are too far north for Jan.
I'd also look at the West Coast of Barbados. Far enough south for great weather and some lovely properties on a calm, gorgeous beach. Excellent restaurants also.
We stayed once on the South coast--too many waves, prefer the pristine West Coast.
Another time at a small property on the West Coast---great beach but plain property. We'd choose another on the west Coast if we return.
