Which cabin/lodge room at YMCA of the Rockies (Estes Park)?
My husband has a conference at the YMCA of the Rockies (Estes Park) in late Sept for 6 days. My young children and I will join him because we've never been to Rocky Mountain National Park and it seems like a great time of year to go. While the conference rate includes a lodge room and meals, I have read some pretty negative reviews about the food (not good, especially for vegetarians, which we are) and the lodge rooms (noisy, which isn't great with young kids who go to bed by 8 pm). So I'm thinking of having us get a cabin instead, with a kitchen to make our own meals (with a stove, not just a microwave, and a fridge and dishwasher).
My question: which cabin (or lodge room, if that's what you suggest) do you recommend for a family of 4 with a 4 year old and 1 year old? I'd like something very clean, quiet, ideally with a view and not too expensive. 1 or 2 bedroom, as long as there is room for us all (ie, 2 queens, or a queen and 2 singles). There are so many choices, and I want to try to get a cabin that will work well for my family.

Fall can be a busy time in Estes and RMNP (Elk rut, aspen viewing, etc.). I think you should reserve your cabin (if you want a kitchen) soon (believe they start at 2 bedroom.)It will be cool, esp. at night, so a fireplace might be nice. That limits your choice (some are summer only). The reservations people will be able to tell you what's available, and what bed type a particular cabin has (bunk beds, etc.), view, etc.
Tell them what you want ("clean" isn't necessary) and they'll help you more than anyone here. http://ymcarockies.org/#

Oh boy, this brings back a memory of a retreat at the YMCA camp Estes Park many years ago. It was an inspiring week with our then young son along, but the food was absolutely awful. And this was a shared opinion. My memory is that accomodations in this facility are basic, not fancy such as with some motel amenities. But this isn't recent info. That didn't bother us at the time as we were campers. Sorry not to be more current. By the way, we do like the place and area.
