Are seas rough in march in the med
Hi
We are thinking of going on the Norwegian Jade - western Med on 22 March. Please let me know what the seas are like at that time. I know there have been a few bad episodes around March time but in general are the seas calm or rough?
Thank you

Your question is a little bit like asking if it is going to rain on March 24 - yes, no, maybe. The Med will only be rough if there is a storm moving through. So the probability of weather systems moving through is a bit more frequently in the Spring than mid summer or even fall. Rather than rough seas I would be more concerned about the general temperature and assume it could be very chilly when at sea because the warm up has not started and the water temp would be on the cold side.

Doug, didn't you have said some time ago that the sea on western Mediterranean is more rough than eastern Mediterranean in general as well?
We have done a few Mediterranean cruises and have not encounter any rough seas. But then we have not cruise Mediterranean in March as it is not a good travel month for us.

I think in general you can have more seasonal rough seas in the Western Med. Cruise ships have had to cancel calls because they can't dock, but this all depends on the particular circumstances of the weather. It's been horrible this winter in Southwest England, for instance, and Spain and Portugal have had record waves on their Atlantic coasts. I don't know how that is translating into the Med seas this year. I haven't heard of any particular problems this year. At least nothing catastrophic. Other than the incident with the Marco Polo, but that was in the English Channel.
