JOURNEY FROM BARCELONA TO CROATIA

Hi there,

I am a student that is backpacking Europe for 9 weeks this summer. I will be in Barcelona, Spain on June 30th and I have to get to Split, Croatia by July 9th.

I was thinking of making my way there by the coast of Spain/France and enter the top of Italy (Genoa) and then ferry across to Split. I was thinking of exploring the french riveria and the cinque terre. Is this too much to travel in 9 days?

If you could choose..... would you travel the french riveria? the cinque terre? both? just fly straight to croatia?

What would be the cheapest option??

Thank you so much,

Angela

What else are you already planning to see in Croatia (besides Split?)

Nine days is a fair bit of time and you could do several stops on the way to Ancona (where the ferry to Split leaves from) on the train. But you could also fly on Vueling from Barcelona to Zagreb, Split or Dubrovnik and explore different parts of Croatia.

The flight will be much cheaper than the train/ferry combo, I would think. The fare on Vueling from Barcelona to Zagreb on June 30 is only 64.99 euros (they have some "extras" they add on though that will bump that up 20 or so euros.)

you can also fly to ancona on Ryanair I believe or some airline. check out www. whichbudget.com

I'd go to the Italian lakes before the Riviera. Fly to Milan or Bergamo and train up.

You may also take a ferry from Barcelona to Livorno or Civitavecchia (port of Rome) or a plane from BCN to Pisa or Rome and visit either Florence and surroundings or Rome and surroundings or both.
After that take a train via Foligno to Ancona in order to catch the overnight ferry.
