South Carribean Cruise or Playa Conchal Costa Rica?

I have a travel dilemma,

I am very fortunate and blessed that my company gives us the opportunity to earn a vacation. My wife and I are indecisive as to whether to go on the Celebrity Summit for 8 days and 7 nights staying in an ocean view stateroom or 7 days at the Westin all inclusive resort in Playa Conchal, Costa Rica. Both have advantages and dis advantages and I wanted some folks out there to weigh in if they have been at either locations.
The cruise offers 4 different ports of call on the trip which is great plus Celebrity crusies receive high marks for their service. There is much to do for exploring the different ports of call or just relaxing poolside. The downside is of course with all cruises alcohol is not included and the cabin is pretty tight (170 sq ft) with no balcony.
The Westin is all inclusive with 5 or 6 different restaurants and alcohol is included. The room is spacious compared to the cruise with a deluxe jr suite at 550 square feet. The downside is that you are at 1 location the entire time and to go exploring you are paying for excursions which can be a hit or a miss depending on the tour company.
I would appreciate any thoughts or opinions as we have until next week to submit our decision. If anyone has been on any similar trips please share with me your experience on that trip.

I'd probably go with the CR trip. CR is a really neat country, and unlike with the cruise, you won't be seeing it with 2000 of your closest cruise mates I have not been to this resort, but I have been to that area of CR and it is great - I would definitely return. As for excursions - you will pay for those regardless of whether you are on a cruise ship or at a resort and in both cases, they can be hit and miss.

I agree with November moon and would choose Costa Rica. Not a fan of cruising since most of the time you are stuck on the ship and ports of call are too rushed to really enjoy them. I have not been, but Playa Conchal is beautiful and you will find plenty to do, or not if you choose.

I'm not a big fan of cruises. When we've done it, I've felt stuck on the ship when I wanted to be out exploring. I like to stay in the same place for several days and go exploring and get a real feel for the country, so I'm team CR. Costa Rica is wonderful to visit. I've heard that Playa Conchal is quite nice, but have not been to that area personally.

Playa Conchal is one of the most beautiful beaches in CR. We didn't stay at the Westin, but in the small village of Brasilito and walked to the beach at Conchal. I haven't been on a cruise since I agree w/ the posters above, so my vote would be Conchal. There are numerous excursions in the area, so you can do as much or as little as you wish.
