Bangkok to Chiang Mai

Bangkok to Chiang Mai
Hello!
We are flying into Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi), arriving at about 9am on Sat March 1 and then want to fly straight to Chiang Mai - we've been looking at taking Bangkok Air from Suvarnabhumi, on a flight that leaves at about 12.00. My two questions are:
1. Is this enough time to get our bags and get through customs, and then check-in for the next flight?
2. And secondly, is about £90 a good price for a return flight (Bangkok-Chiang Mai)? Or if I wait, will this come down in price? We are going in the first week of March.

Let's see. Now not even October and you are going in March so that's more than 5 months in the future. My estimate is Yes to Q1, and many air flights from CM to BKK, so probably some cheaper than &90. But, that is the high price season in T'land so 'who knows'.

Yes it should be enough time between the two flights, even though it will be short if you are planning to relax in the airport.
Air Asia will have cheaper prices but they fly from Don Mueang Airport. There's a bus transfer in between the 2 airports (for free) but depending on the traffic it might take from 45min to 2h to get there (no booking necessary, first arrived, first served) so you might want to take a later flight.
Waiting too long won't necessarily give you better rates, just look out for the promotions, AIr Asia has a lot (it might not come up this early though but you can still check).
I hope you're planning to stay a few days in Bangkok though, as there are a lot to see and do in and around the city.

And yes, we're planning on going to Chiang Mai for a few days, then come back to Bangkok for about 3 nights, then heading to Koh Chang for 5 nights. With about 2-3 days in Bangkok, what you recommend is essential to see/do?
Also, we are coming back from Koh Chang to Bangkok, the night before our flight back to London at 10.55am the next day. Do you think it would be better to stay near the airport the night before, or in the city?

There is nothing to do/see out by the airport, so I'd recommend you stay in town your last night. That way you can at least go out for a lovely dinner.
During your limited time in Bangkok, I'd suggest you spend half a day seeing the major wats: Emerald Buddha, Wat Po (Reclining Buddha) and Wat Arun. Get to the Emerald Buddha as the gates to the Grand Palace open at 8:30. You can walk from there to Wat Po (a long block away), and after that, go to the river (a short walk) and take the foot ferry across to Wat Arun.
Other things to consider: the Jim Thompson House, Erawan Shrine, the Prasart Museum (this requires advance reservations), the Teak Palace, some of the wonderful house museums, shopping, eating, dozens of less-visited wats...
