Traveling from Athens to Delphi
I will be arriving in Greece 23.10.13 and will be renting a car and heading straight to Delphi. I was just wondering if anyone knows of a place to stay between Athens and Delphi to split the ride up after a long flight. Gail

Athens - Delphi is a short 2,5 hours drive, you can stop in Livadia and visit the Kria springs, or the Osios Loukas Monastery, a Unesco World Heritage site.

The ride is so short, that it makes no sense to overnight anywhere.......

Hello nanabee,
This is an area with very few hotels, due to the short distance to Athens.
The only place where you could overnight is the city of Livadia, located 110 km away from Athens.
Have a look at the Levadia Hotel :

In the city , there is a very nice area with a few restaurants and a small river named Kria.
Best way to reach Livadia is via the motor way Athens - Lamia, take the exit at Kastro, it is a short drive from there.
Do not chose the route via Thiva, due to heavy traffic with trucks.
Personally i would drive straight to Delphi, since it is a short drive anyway. ( only 180 km)

Gail, what time of day do you arrive? If it's before 3 PM, I see no reason to stop for the night ... from your "screen name" I'm guessing u are from London, so isn't that only a 4 hour flight max? I say, get there, relax w. a good dinner, and enjoy the site at 8 am, before bus tours arrive. NOTE: doing museum first may be wise, because that's where it's n icest to be solitary ... in the outdoors, tour groups are more spread out.

Thanks so much clausar. We ended up driving straight through from Delphi to Athens. We ended up coming back a day earlier than anticipated and no longer have our rental car. We are happily situated at the Sofitel Hotel at the airport. It will make it very convenient to walk over to catch our plane in the morning.
Delphi is definitely worth the trip. We stayed at the Hotel Acropolis but would definitely recommend Hotel Leto. We tried to stay there but it was booked. The museum is worth visiting. Wear good shoes as it's quite a hike up to the top! But the view is spectacular and you are at the center of the world!
