Looking to travel early next year and would like feedback from those who have traveled to a private island.
As far as budget...5K to 8K for a week.
My ideal vacation includes cocktails on a pristine beach and great food.
Virginia:
Please tell me more about Necker Island.

Necker is in the Virgin Islands.
It's about $20,000 a night.
For your budget you're not getting a private island for a week.
Early next year--meaning peak season? (Jan thru April?)
Your best bet that time of year is a villa, and it won't be on the beach. Beach villas run about $15,000 for the week that time of year.
You could try Placencia in Belize, or smallish islands in Panama. But it will still be more than your budget for a private island.
PS private islands not only come for a price, but the beaches are still public!

I agree with blamona - you won't find a "private island" (i.e. a place where you are the only guests) with an $8k/week budget but you can find a few resorts that are on "private islands" where you can get accommodations in your price range.
If you can stretch your budget to around $9,000 you can get 6 nights at Cayo Espanto, a small private island resort in Belize or Jumby Bay, a small island resort just off of Antigua.
Also look at Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Island. This private island resort has room rates that should be within your budget.
Petit St. Vincent Resort is another private island resort (in the Grenadines. It's at the top end of your budget (6 nights) but it is a little difficult to get to.

I've only ever visited two privately owned islands and stayed at one/ I've stayed at Guana Island in the British Virgin Islands twice, for special occasions. Loved it both times. I've also visited Young Island, just off the coast of st. Vincent and spent a day there.
Guana is about as close to perfect for me as I can imagine any private island being. Your miles may vary.
If you've not done so already, check out the reviews at www.scubamom.com. she reviews a few private islands and some very nice resorts on her webpage, all with ample photos.

What about Palm Island in the Grenadines? I believe the resort is the only thing on the small island. It was recently offered for a great price on one of the flash sale sites -- Vacationist maybe. Also check Luxury Link and Sky Auction (disclaimer, I've never used Sky Auction). They have revolving sales so you may find something you like that fits your budget.

Your input thus far has been very helpful. Should have been more clear in my question in that we are looking for a resort on a private island. We have visited Jumby Bay and are looking for the same type of vacation experience in July of next year.
