Taxi fare from Budapest airport to Le Meridien Hotel

We will be in Budapest in October prior to a River cruise. I was planning to get a taxi from the airport - I heard that they are now regulated with set fares, but my travel agent suggested that I just arrange a private car pick up for $60 US for 2 of us -nice after a long flight to have someone waiting for you, no hassle, no lines.

I thought a taxi would cost about $30 US including tip of 10%. And that using the taxi in Budapest would be straightforward and easy.
Anyone with recent experience in Budapest? Fast & easy or a hassle?

Used one to get home two nights ago. I live a bit further from the airport than Le Meridien. Exit the airport and just outside go to the taxi kiosk. You can pay in HUF or euro and by cash or credit.

I paid 24 euro cash (had extra euro from my vacation).. And gave 25 euro (no need for 10% tip).

You arrange the taxi at the kiosk and they give you a receipt with the price and taxi number. The taxi pulls up right next to the kiosk, you pay the driver at the end.

It could not be easier. Do use only the kiosk.

We had pre-arranged our airport pick-up to/from Le Meridien using airport transfer Budapest. The round-trip fare came up to €40 for 2 people....prompt, reliable and courteous service. (One way was €22).

This is a great tool roselina, thx for sharing.

There is really no reason to schedule a driver. Taxis from the stand are perfectly good. As always, do not go with anyone who solicited your business.

@CentralEurope had it spot on. He paid a little much because he paid in Euros. Private drivers are no longer allowed to park in the arrival area. If you hire one of these guys you are paying too much and you will either end up waiting for them to go and get their car or you will have to take a hike with them. I promise that you will get to your hotel faster, with less hassle and at a better price if you just use the authorized airport taxi company. The authorized taxi company is Fotaxi and the fare is fixed at 6,500 huf or at current rates about 22 (but if you pay in euro they will charge 24 euro). Keep your receipt and the return trip is 4,490 HUF or about 15 euro. The cars are clean and in a couple of dozen trips I have never had a bad driver. Great hotel in outstanding location by the way. Have a great time.
