I'm a planning a trip to Budapest, Vienna, and Prague in June and am having great difficulty finding acceptable accomodations for three people in one hotel room. Looks like you have a choice between one bed for two or two twin beds - it's me, my husband, and my 18 year old son. Neither of those options works. When I plug in 3 people to a myriad of hotel sites, I'm told there are no rooms available and to change the number of people down to 2. How do families travel to these countries and stay in one room together? I'm very confused!!

You could search for "aparthotel + <city name>". The Adina in Budapest has some two-bedrooms.

I was just in Budapest in early October. Hotels there are somewhat deceptive. I picked a 4* on a 'quiet street', that was anything but quiet. The room was anything but a 4*.

In Prague I stayed at a nice 4* for a very decent price,
Hotel Klarov. www.hotelklarov.cz

It was very quiet, close to 2 metro stations and facing a park. Hotel was in a perfect location for getting to the sights of the city. We had a nice view of the Prague Palace outside our large windows.

You might give them a try.

It was well located, clean and comfortable. Not as comfortable as having your own apartment, but more interesting

Maria and Istvan were both friendly and gave you your space.

I stayed in one of their apartments at the end of 2011. It was very central, very comfortable, remarkably well equipped and came with a wealth of information. Much better than a hotel!

Millenium Court run by Marriott is very nice and quite central. We had a nice two bedroom flat a few years ago.

Would a room with one double and a twin work? I've not had trouble finding this config in Vienna at the Pension Pertschy, www.pertschy.com and at the Hotel am Stephansplatz, www.hotelamstephansplatz.at

Both locations are excellent, note the am Stephansplatz was completely re-done about 8 years ago and may now not have 3-person rooms or may be over budget.

You could try the Hilton in Buda, not the usual sterile chain, again great location.

Look at the smaller pensions in all cities, two rooms, particularly if one is a single, are often less than one room in a large hotel.

You may need to email hotels directly, takes a bit more time but responses are usually quick and you know exactly what you are getting.

Check out the website everythingbudapest.com. There is tons of good info on, just as its name implies, everything Budapest! When on that website click on the Budapest vacation rental link and look at John's apartments. We stayed in Max a couple years ago and loved it.

A third recommendation for John and the Budapest apartments. We also stayed in Max last year and found it lovely, the location ideal and it came with a washer/dryer, which was a great benefit for a 3 week trip. We stayed in Budapest for a week and found lots to do.

My husband and I, together with our son, will be visiting Budapest in the spring. Like you, we wanted a triple room. On Tripadvisor we saw rave reviews for the Bellevue BandB. Based on the reviews and the owner's very prompt and helpful response, we think this will be a great choice. The Bellevue is located on the Buda side of the river, which I understand is quieter, but we don't mind walking 15 minutes and/or taking public transit, especially when the payoff is a good night's sleep.

I see others have recommended apartment rentals, and we have also done that, though not in Budapest, since we are only staying three nights. However, I agree that it's a great option as well. We have had great experiences with apartment rentals.
