HR Geiger Museum Review
You probably already know that HR Geiger designed the sets for "Alien" as well as the creature that devoured people. I found it a bit unsettling but my wife loves such things. So to please her I planned a stop during our recent trip at a museum set up by Geiger to display his works and his vivid imagination.
The museum is in Gruyere, Switzerland about an hour north and west of Geneva.
It's a small place, apparently a converted 4 story house with many side rooms. Each room contains displays of his works with much space devoted to the "Alien" sets. Some rooms even contain domestic furniture such as a dining table and chairs that would put any person of ordinary sensibilities off his feed for days.
They are numerous rooms devoted to his erotic efforts, . If your taste runs to the bizarre this might work for you. Not for kids however.
On the whole I found the place unpleasant especially because I was having GI problems and this added to my misery. Remember there's a warning beacon in the movie. This place should come with one. On the other hand, wife quite enjoyed it and she insists that I tell you that from her perspective this place is worth the trip...

RJD, not sure about the museum, but isn't Gruyere beautiful? We were there on a lovely summer’s day. The view across the valley from the castle (including a few hot air balloons) was spectacular.
How was the visibility during your visit?

Yes I should have mentioned that if the weather is good, which it was for our trip in September, Gruyere is quite beautiful and may be worth the visit on it's own. There is a slight inconvenience with parking because you are not allowed to drive cars into the small center of town, but the parking lots are quite close and the traffic free area is a joy.

Giger designed those for the movie Dune. Maybe your wife recognised them. As a sci-fi fan, I was happy to find it. On the other hand, there were a few small rooms where children were not recommended ( or evn not allowed?) to enter due to its sexual/ S&M like contents that had nothing to do with the movies I had seen. When I visited the museum 15 or so years ago shortly after the opening, Giger Bar across the street was still under construction, using those monstrous ( that I rather like )furniture. Anyway, what a funny choice of location for such a "hard" themed museum. The exposition is "dark", such a contrast to the surrounding Swiss country side landscape.
