Elephant Plain, South Africa
Hello. I am traveling to South Africa in a couple of months and I am thinking of staying at Elephant Plains in Sabi Sands. It is my first time to South Africa. If anyone has ever stayed there, I would be interested in knowing a few things.
1. Is the water safe to drink and if not is bottled water readily available?
2. Is insect repellent provided or should I bring my own?
3. Does anyone want to comment on their experience?
Thanks!

Hello, Jen. We were there in September.
1. Yes, the water's fine.
2. I don't remember, sorry. (In September we weren't worried about mozzies; it wasn't the season.)
3. It was WONDERFUL!!! The accommodations, the guiding, the sightings, the food, everything was WONDERFUL!
I'd go back again in a minute. I know you'll love it.

Yes, Jen, there was a hair dryer. The room was really lovely -- two easy chairs in the bedroom, a queen-size bed, a big closet, a huge bathroom with a 2-person tub and a separate shower, and robes and slippers. There was also a small fridge, and of course a tea and coffee tray. We stayed in the rondavels; the other units are more luxurious, I understand. Hard to think how they could be, but I'm sure they are.
There's also a TV lounge, and a spa, away from the main building which houses the very lovely bar and restaurant and shop. Internet access was available only in the front office. We were able to check email once or twice.
Anything we needed that wasn't already provided, they gave us right away. I feel sure they will provide insect repellant, too.
Lucky you! I wish I was going back sooner.

"For those that have been there, do you know if they offer a private vehicle/guide?"
Ask the most reliable source to answer that. Call Elephant Plains. (They speak English). If yes, you will also get best answer as to cost and if reservation is required (there are some freelance guides that are called in by camps for special situations).
