Day trip Venice-Milan

Hei!

I´m going to Italy in a few days with some friends. We are hiring a car for one day to get from Venice to Milan. We would like to drive some interesting route to see cool villages and beautiful countryside. Do you have any suggestions for the route?
Thanks.

Lake Garda sits smack en route to Milan from Venice - park the car at a place like Descenzano sp?) and take lake boats to places like Sirmione, some of the very finest classical Roman ruins in Italy IME - lovingly set overlooking this fjord-like lake - or just drive to some of the famous lakeside towns.

Verona is also en route and though a biggest city it is one with a plethora of fine sights - an unGodly number of ancient churches, a fabulous open-air markets, palazzos and of course Juliet's Balcony on the house purported to be the one Shakespeare wrote about in his Romeo and Juliet play - you'll be singing in your hear 'Romeo Romeo wherefore art thous Romeo - in fact to me except for Milan's iconic Duomo Verona has more to see and do than Milan.

I hope you mean this is a one-way trip from Venice to Milan. Since it's about 4 hours on the highway - no detours or stops at cute places - it's definitely not doable as a RT in one day.

As a day trip? That's close to 3 hours of driving each way without any detours for charming towns or scenery.

What is the priority? Seeing charming towns and scenery or seeing the sights of Milan? Would you stop, get out of the car and explore a town, or do you only want to do 'drive-bys' of towns in pretty settings? What do you want to see in Milan? What time of year are you going?

If it were my trip, I'd either go to Milan by train (still 2.5 hours each way), or see Vicenza and Verona by train, or drive in an area not reachable by train. Depending on the time of year, that might be Malcesine on Lake Garda (for the cable car to the mountain top), or the mountains east of the lake, or the area within the circle of Padova-Verona-Mantova-Ferrara-Padova.

I wouldn't drive into Milan and perhaps not into Verona. You should investigate the limited traffic zones (ZTL) in each city to avoid a traffic ticket, know where you're going to park and how to get to the parking areas.

I believe the OP mean a day's journey between Venice and Milan not a day trip, I hope at least!
