I have 48 reviews on the following Amazon link ;
http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A142N7PESHWHB4
The two I mentioned were , I believe :
translation of Epic poem by Nazim Hikmet, "Landscapes...."
and
travels of Evliya Chelebi.
The first should give you a good idea of the kind of people who inhabit this area and the second, th kind of people who used to.
For pure architecture or archeology there are many boring books, including some by my old professor and friend John Freely.
I will be away from Fodors till the second week of July unless I get an urgent plea for help like yours.
i need time to prepare for philosophy conference and some re-paving and maintenance seem to be called for like the work which will start on Monday 18th June on the Second Bosphorus Bridge.
I hope you enjoy the books and possibly some of my other reviews also.
