Hi all, old friends by now...I'm booking all the train tickets tonight and am a little confused about our Prague - Munich journey. Am I reading the Bahn site correctly, in that it looks like the most direct (no stop) route is actually by bus, not train (is that what the seemingly obvious BUS code means?). The only other choice I see says ICE, BUS...is that a fast train for part of the way, then a change onto a bus? Are we just smarter to take the bus all the way...or is BUS code for something else?

Also, I see that that choice has us leaving from Praha hl.n. (Autobusová St. Wilsonova) and arriving at München Hbf Arnulfstraße ...are these different stations than the one we'll arrive at in Prague and the Haubtbanhof that will be near our hotel in Munich?

This seems like our best choice - no changes and takes 4:59, the shortes time.

So, advice? Is the bus fine, and maybe the only show in town anyway?

The direct route is a bus. It is a comfortable, non-stop bus with luggage compartment under the bus. You just book it under the Dbahn site because it is operated by them and basically takes the place of a train route.

The bus leaves from the main train station in Prague (Praha hl.n. is short for that) - just upstairs on street-level right out front. It arrives in Munich at the main train station (Arnulfstrasse is the street on the side of the train station where it stops).

The second choice - connecting in Nuremburg is indeed the express bus and the fast train. This is the connection we took last summer, in fact, because they hadn't started operating the direct bus between the cities. Now that they have the direct bus, I see no reason not to take it.

november_moon, thanks for confirming. I try to make my questions as specific as possible for fear of being that dreaded poster (with vague, useless titles like, "HELP!") . Having said that, I think I'd be frightened to make a huge mistake booking something I didn't quite understand without double checking with all of the experts here. DH is amazed at the accuracy and speed of assistance using Fodors and I recommend it to everyone who asks me how I plan all our trips. I did my homework as best I could - googled and found a vague answer that led me to suspect the information you provided - but I'd never be as confident as hearing it from a regular here.

Direct bus it is...I'm off to book it now, last booking for lodging/travel for this trip. Think we'll take a break from such activities for awhile and enjoy dreaming of August.

For price comparison, look at www.eurolines.com We have used them twice and found them reliable. It's non-stop. we purchased out tickets a day early, as they can fill up.
