Belize cayo hotel

After looking at belize for years I finally snagged airlines with frequent flyer miles for March 2013. We are splitting our time between cayo district and a caye unsure which.
While in Cayo area we want to do The ATM cave, tikal, and possibly tubing or mountain pine. We are only going to be there probably 4 nights. I love the idea of a jungle lodge but they seem a little pricey which is not an issue if it is worth it. I am questioning cheaper option in San Ignagio because we want to do a tour each day. Are the lodges worth it if you will only be there in the evenings after tours? Will these excursions give us a good feel for the area? Thanks

Whether top of the line places like Chaa Creek www.chaacreek.com and Caves Branch are worth it is a matter of personal opinion, as is whether staying in a unique jungle setting after tours is worth it.

We loved all 4 of the places below for different reasons. Happy trails!

www.cavesbranch.com - Awesome adventures, nice jungle setting, has become more resort-like in recent years, spendy.

www.thetrekstop.com - Terrific budget place, little cabins in a wood setting within walking distance to Xunantunich.

www.aguadahotel.com - Great value, in a neighborhood in Santa Elena within walking distance of San Ignacio, has a pool.

www.belizecamp.com - Macal River Camp, Chaa Creek's jungly cousin with sweet tent cabins and terrific food in a beautiful setting (saw motmots, toucans, aracaris, and iguanas from our hammocks).

Happy deciding!

Check out Table Rock...small, personal and excellent food. Just a little down the river from Chaa Creek but much cheaper.

We did ATM and Caracol thru PACZ instead of thru the lodge and would highly recommend them. The lodge has tubes and canoes to use at no cost and the property is a working farm with pet donkeys.

We did Chaa Creek and really liked it; we got a great deal on Luxury Link. We also used PACZ to save $.
