Veste Coburg via public transit
Would like to visit Veste Coburg in Coburg. Using trains and buses.
If I'm reading the site correctly, we train from Bamberg to Coburg then take bus ???from Coburg Bahnhof ZOB or from Beiersdorf (???)Bahnhof ZOB.
All covered on the Bayern ticket?
I take it that walking up to the Veste is not really feasible/recommended?

I do not know the answer to your bus question but the Veste is up a very large hill and is not as close to the town as it might appear. I would probably take a taxi.
In Coburg I would also recommend Scloss Ehrenburg.

It appears there are more departures from Bahnhof ZOB (the schedule doesn't list it as Coburg) than Beiersdorf. Pages 2 (M-F), 4 (Saturday) and 6 (Sunday) are the departures with pages, 1, 3, 5 the returns.

Yes, it appears to be. If you enter Bamberg and Coburg on bahn.de, you will get a list of trains to choose. One says Coburg Bahnhof ZOB and others just Coburg. Choose each (arrow on the left to show details) and you can then choose a map. It will show the route and you will have a choice on the left of destination station. If you click this on both, it shows the same location. Note that the connections to ZOB list a bus as the second connection.

Yes! There’s an easy way to do this...don’t take a taxi. I’m at Veste Conurg right now typing this...
So come into town via bus or train, to the main central Coburg Bahnhofsplatz—they have no ‘Hauptbahnhof’ per se, but there is a central one simply named “Coburg” with no prefix or suffix. If you’re lazy and have money to burn take a taxi up to the Veste—
Otherwise the bus lines are *right* next to the Bahnhof—exit, then turn right and walk one minute. It’s less than 2 Euros to take the bus, No. 5 (labelled ‘veste’ one-way to the top of the mountain. From there is a short 7 min cobblestone walk to the entrance. Busses leave approx. on the half hour.
Well worth it!
Come back the same way — Tchüss!
