We will be traveling from the port Civitavecchia to Rome to spend 1 day before we head home. We plan on taking the train.Does anyone know of a reasonable, nice hotel near the train station? Also does anyone know another way to get to Rome from the port? We will be carrying our luggage so we would like to find another means of transportation.

You really need to define your idea of "reasonable". Hotel Paba near the colesseum?? Have a good trip....

From the port, you can train for about 10€ or you can hire a transfer service for about 120€.

We have taken several cruises using Rome as a starting or ending point - we stay at Hotel Sonya. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train station. But do be aware the trains from Civit. come in at the faaaar end of the station - I convinced some friends that we were traveling with that using the train from the port was an easy do and I think in the end it was more arduous than they liked - so you will have to walk about 10 - 15 min at the port, then a 45 min train ride, 15 min or so walk in the station, 10 - 15 min. to hotel. Cheap it is but you have to be able to handle your bags.

I think Hotel Sonya is running around 120E per night - you might want to look on www.venere.com - they have a good search function for finding other options near the train station.

Thank you all so much. I think my limit I would spend for the room would be $200.00. We will have luggage which we will have to carry ourselves, which I am not looking forward to.

Why the problem with luggage? No one needs to be loaded down with luggage on a European trip. It's easy enough to get all you need into one small rollaboard.

I have stayed at the Hotel Canada. Dont be fooled by the name it is a truly Italian hotel with a beautiful breakfast room and lovely, quite large rooms (for Europe) Two really nice restaurants in the same street and a two miunute walk to the termini. I believe it is a Best Western, has good reveiews on Tripadvisor.

Hotel Aberdeen which is rated number 8(?) out of all of the Rome hotels on Tripadvisor is what you want. It is a charming 3 star hotel on Via Torino right off of Via Nationale using Piazza Repubblica(sp?) and walking distance (2 blocks from Termini station). It is beloved by Rick Steves,Frommers and many other guidebooks. Family run with a great breakfast,rooms,free internet and massive help from reception for anything you need.Great area-been going there for over 15 years.
I layover in Rome for work all of the time at a high end hotel and think that the Aberdeen is alot of bang for your buck in Rome-prices are on the internet. Check out the internet site.They will also book you a private car or limo for reasonable prices back to FCO. Don't spend more than 50 euros for several of you in a cab!!!!

StCirq I think they are comIng off a cruise ship. I've never been on a cruise but I think you do need more clothes because you have to dress for dinner each night and stuff like that. I could be wrong though.

Otherwise I agree with you totally, When we got to the airport to leave for our last European trip my husband nearly collapsed when my bag weighed in at 12 kilos. I had packed clothes, books and my own hair dryer, and cosmetics and spare knickers etc were in my hand luggage. He was very impressed. I did not wear any of those clothes for a long time when we got home, I was sick to death of them!

I am a very light packer, and determined to find the lightest luggage on earth, BUT:

You can take taxis to the train in Civ. and from Termini to your hotel in Rome. There is no earthly reason to drag luggage anywhere by foot.

Get off a train and take a taxi to your hotel.

Also, isn't there an exit from Termini that is a bit closer to the track that the Civ. train comes in on? I have never taken that train, but I have exited Termini from a secondary entrance. Just wondering if there is one closer to that track...

You can get a Private transfer from the airport into Rome for €45 (unless it has gone up lately). VERY much worth it, in our opinion. Look up Romeshuttlelimousine.com. They were very reliable and nice, and it was good to know exactly how much it would cost before we got in the car.

A friend stayed at Hotel Des Artistes with his teenaged daughter. He said it was quite nice. It is not far from the train station. It was what I would call a budget hotel. But if you get a private car you can go anywhere for a hotel.

The OP is asking about transfer between Civitavecchia and Rome, not the airport. Rome Shuttle charges 110€ from/to the port for up to three people.
