post high school trip

I'm in grade eleven, and am starting to plan for a trip in the summer of 2013 to Europe. I don't have more than 1500 to spend (i am going to fly from Israel one way, so the fares will be cheaper). I was wondering if anyone had cost saving tips for everything from food to accomodations. I plan to only go for 10 days.

If anyone has heard of a program (like an organized or volunteer trip) that will offer some structure, it will be much appreciated.

Is the 2300 euros, dollars or shekel (I assume not, since that would only be about $600)?

Will you be by yourself or traveling with another person (or more)?

What kinds of things interest you? You might want to check out the Thorntree and Lonely Planet websites for a more youthful slant.

Also, is there any countries particular in Europe? Western Europe can get expensive.

Generally speaking, hostels are a great way to save money and meet people. I'd probably not move around so much and stay in an concentrated area to save money.

1) stay in monestries, often cheaper than hostels or B&B and you get to meet some interesting people. Works in Spain, Italy etc
2) stay in towns rather than cities
3) M-F eat the main meal of the day the working mans lunch. Normally about 12 Euro 3 courses with wine. Eat sandwiches or equiv for supper
4) Avoid branded drinks like coke or bottled beer. Most tap water is safe
5) book travel well ahead, check out cheap airlines and trains. Some coaches can be even cheaper if booked ahead

Libraries in some countries offer free computer and email use.

Look at the Let's Go guides and the Thorn Tree section of the Lonely Planet web site - both will give you a host of hints on how to travel on a budget. Agree we need to know 2300 what - and how long you plan on staying. You can spend a lot less if you pick the less expensie countries (avoid Switzerland and Scandinavia) but spain, portugal and central europe may be less expensive.

But - unless you are spending only a couple of weeks I think your budget is very low - esp if it includes air fare.

Hi, so it's 2300 dollars (CAD) and I'm most likely going alone.
