Best way to find APARTMENT rental in Rome?

Hi everyone!

I'm searching for a 1 week apartment rental in Rome, preferably the Trastevere area as I hear the atmosphere is great there

Does anyone have suggestions as to where to look? Any websites you've used to book apartments and had a great experience?

Thanks!

I've rented in Rome several times. I've used vrbo.com, rentalinrome.com, realrome.com, cross-pollinate.com and a guy who appears to be no longer in business. Almost booked with sleepinitaly.com once too but they place I wanted wasn't available for a few of the days so we couldn't do it. I've never had any serious problems (knocks wood). Do your homework and ask questions.

Realrome in particular is very easy to work with. If they always had the kind of apartment I needed available for my given dates, I would always rent from them.

I have used Sleep in Italy ( www.sleepinitaly.com ) for years. I have never had a problem, and trust me that in many cases I have needed to make dramatic changes that should have caused problems. Their holdings are pretty much exactly as described and their charges are very good.

I forgot to ask... Do you think the Trastevere are is a good choice? I don't know Rome, so I'm basing this on things I've read...
If anyone knows of a better neighborhood for us, please don't hesitate.

We are looking for something central, that way we can visit mostly by walking. We're in our late 20s, so longer walks are not a problem. As long as there's some markets and coffee shop/restaurant close by, be don't mind walking longer for the "touristy stuff"...

Trastevere is a good choice (there are other good neighborhoods too) but it covers a huge swath area, some parts are good and convenient for walking to the historical area across the river - other areas of Trastevere are not good (or convenient).

So...make sure you are in the right part - close to Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere and close to the Ponte Sisto is what you want. Even more important, make sure any apartment you are considering gives you a street address or a clear idea (within a block or so) of where it is. If it doesn't give this basic information, steer clear.

Anyone have experience dealing with ItalyPerfect.com?

I depend on fromhometorome.com for each of my yearly travels to the Eternal City. I know personally the onwer-manager, Emanuele Buffa, who picks only special rental apartments in the best locations and deals with every aspect of it. His staff is available when corresponding before arrival and on the spot, too, and they always find me the best solution for my next trip to Rome.

Among the apartments in the website, I can recommend a few at least: Clock House, Monte degli Orsini, Wanderlust, Domus Claudiae, Paradiso Penthouse

There is a page on Fodors' about this small, yet professional agency
