All Inclusive in Montego Bay, Jamaica (Secrets?)

I've been getting prices for all inclusive resorts in Montego Bay and wanted your opinions. We're probably flying out of ATL since it may be cheaper. I'm getting prices from travel agents now. We just want to relax, have fun, experience the culture, and maybe venture off into Ochos Rios (haven't seen how far away it is). Are the Secrets resorts a good option? I'm wondering if the liquor is really premium. I also saw the Grand Palladium but saw its in Lucea and was unsure if that was too far from the airport. Please throw out suggestions. We're going August 1-6th and would like to stay under $1,000 but willing to up it a bit for a GREAT experience. There will 4 of us total.

Lucea is not too far from the airport. It's about half way out to Negril I think (which is a 90 min. drive). Hopefully people can chime in and actually answer your question. For me I'd only go to Negril, when I go to Jamaica. I have not found Montego Bay appealing at all (but I have never seen the resorts you are mentioning). Negril is just a really special place. MoBay is a big city and the beaches aren't so great.

Sorry, but I don't understand your budget. You say you want to stay under $1,000. Is this supposed to be for the whole 5 days? For 4 of you? Are there children or are there 2 couples? I'm pretty sure Secrets is an adults only resort chain.

Sorry for not being specific. $1,000 a person is the budget. There aren't any children. Just 4 adults. My friend's mom wants to go to Montego Bay so its pretty much an option. I'm assuming we can tour Ochos Rios anyway.

Secerts is a highly recommend resort chain in Mexico. Not sure about the one in Montego Bay. Most people don't stay and don't recommend the Montego Bay area because is it highly touristy. Negril gets the most receommendations for Jamaica.

Negril is about 90 minutes from Montego Bay. Ocho Rios is about 2 hours from Montego Bay. Staying in MB most people do tours around the Negril area. You might be interested in the YS Falls and Mayfield Falls over Dunns River due to the distance.

The tour operator for Secrets is:

It will give you a good idea of what you can see and do.

Hi there,

Secrets is one of the most exclusive all inclusive resorts in the Dominican republic, adults only, cause we have other great resorts but they admit the whole family.
Secrets is a different concept of all inclusive, with much more comfort, and great for honeymooners. Secrets was managed by AM resorts, that manages several brands like secrets, sun-scape, and this new one they were about to create (dreams, which will be deluxe concept of all inclusive, but for family), not long ago they are not managing that brand any more, so now secrets is just secrets.

Best Regards,
- George Carlin.

We just returned from Secrets Montego Bay (Wild Orchid) and it was better than I could have imagined. Food exceeded expectations, top shelf liquor (must request it) and the rooms were fabulous. We were there 4 days, 3 nights and used AA Vacations and paid $700 per person including airfare from Miami. We booked 5 months ago and got a great deal. Pools with swim up bars, 7 individual restaurants and beautiful sunsets. Bring pool shoes as the swimming in the bay is rocky! Good luck, do not pay the internet price of $500/night.

Well, I sure hope anyone isn't associated with the resort! Thx so much for your lovely suggestions. A friends wants to go to Montego Bay and the resort does look beautiful. I will see what else I can find out about the area. Thanks again!!!

If you plan to just stay on the resort your entire vacation it would be fine. If you had planned to do things out and about, you really might want to do a bit more research what Montego Bay is really like as a city and area.

I can recommend the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall in Montego Bay. My husband and I stayed there this past March and loved it. There are 3 Iberostars together and guests at the Grand can use all three facilities but the inverse is not true. The food was very good and the accommodations very nice. There's a disco on site that all the Iberostar guests can use and there is nightly entertainment at each of the resorts. We had a really great time. It's only 15-20 minutes from the airport. We went zip-lining (about 25 minutes away) and on another day we went snorkeling (not great but still a fun half day).

I meant to add that I don't know what prices are like off-season for the Grand but you may be able to find a deal to meet your budget.
