Restaurants in Parma
Staying two nights (Mon & Tues) at the Palazzo dalla Rosa Prati in May; driving from Bologna.
If on our second day, we drive around for cheese/ham tours, etc., would it be problematic to then drive to Parma Rotta for dinner? (Too much driving?)
Is Trattoria Corrieri a good choice for dinner the first night?
Restaurant suggestions welcomed; would love to walk from hotel.
Thanks!

We stayed at PRP in October and loved it! Our room (No. 5 Lucrezia) overlooked the piazza and had an amazing view of the Duomo. You will love breakfast in the modern T. Cafe (although our room had a kitchenette, so you could make coffee and a meal if you wanted).
Our first night in Parma we had a really good pizza dinner at Orfeo, a pizzeria ristorante on Via Carducci. Before dinner we stopped at Gran Caffe Orientale on Piazza Garibaldi for an aperitivo, which I highly recommend. It is a charming old-style cafe with a gorgeous wood interior. Both the Cran Caffe and Orfeo are within walking distance of the hotel.
Our best meal while we were in Parma was at a little restaurant just 15 minutes down the road - Trattoria ai Due Paltani on Via Budellungo in Coloreto. Seriously amazing food. Here is an excerpt from my trip report regarding our dinner:
We started with a plate of pancetta and parmesan. Now, the only way I had ever had pancetta was thickly-sliced and fried, then added to pasta, included in sauces, etc. But, we have learned to trust Guido when he suggests a local specialty, so we ordered the pancetta. It arrived on a platter very thinly sliced similar to prosciutto, with chunks of aged parmesan. I thought “ugh, there is a lot of fat on that pancetta” but kept my mouth shut and tried a piece. Hahahaha – it was fantastic!!! It was served with some lovely aged balsamic for the parmesan (one of the best food pairings ever invented). We also ordered torta fritta, which were little bits of fried dough that were still hot when they arrived at the table so when a piece of torta fritta was topped with a piece of pancetta some of the fat from the pancetta melted - bellissimo! Oh, we also had plates of prosciutto and salami to round out our cured meat overload, paired with Lambrusco – the “Italian coca-cola”. Although you wouldn’t want to drink Lambrusco every day, it was a perfect accompaniment to the salty and fatty meat! After the meats we had some pasta – Big J and M had agnolotti en brodo and J and I had tortelli di zucca. Both were very good. The restaurant is famous for its tortelli di zucca (there was a large display of green pumpkins at the entrance) and it is deserving of its reputation. I had a debate going with Guido as to whether or not they had added sugar or amaretti to the filling because it was so sweet, but I lost – nothing but zucca in the tortelli!"
BTW, Guido was our guide for our trip, everyone else is my family.

ekc - that meal sounds divine! Even though we will have a car, I wasn't planning to use it while in Parma. Did you have any dinners in Parma? I think we are staying in the Ortensio suite. I can't wait!

ekc, my mouth is watering!!! I have had some of my best meals in Parma. Lovely town. For trattoria style dining, I recommend Gallo D'Oro on Borgo Della Salena, Sorelle Picchi on Via Farini, and Osteria del Gesso. For more sophistacated or special occasioin dining, I would recommend Croce di Malta with terrace dining, Ristorante Cocchi and La Greppea.
For desserts, try Pasticceria Torino.....the preserve filled cornetti are heavenly. For a delightful wine bar, try Enoteca Fontana. And stop in Casa del Formaggio and rub elbows with the locals buying salumi and what else....cheese!

Centralparkgirl, I stayed in Parma with a cousin for about a week with day trips to other cities mixed in. I did not have a single bad meal in Parma. The food there is divine. Don't worry about specific restaurants, enjoy!

I have not been to Parma in 20 years so cannot help with eating. But I just wanted to tell you that I wish you a great trip and will be on the edge of my seat waiting to read your report.
The PRP was the first property that I ever saved on TripAdvisor!
Take good notes for us!

We also had a great dinner in Parma at Ristorante Cocchi (16 Via Gramsci). Here are my notes: "It was a cozy restaurant filled with Italians. Big J had a salad with chicken that he loved. I had an amazing rice dish, similar to risotto, know as Savarin di Riso, or Rice with Parmesan Cheese, Butter and Porcini Mushrooms Rolled in Slices of Cooked Ham. M had a lovely parmesan sformatto with white truffles. It was a wonderful dinner with great service. I am still kicking myself for not having bollito misto – guess I will have to return!"
Although you aren't planning on using your car while in Parma, I would make an exception to drive to dinner at Due Platini - it really is only 15 minutes from the hotel.
