7 nights in Iceland in early July - looking for advice please!

Hello
My wife and I are going to Iceland from July 2-9. We are approx 30 yrs old and from New York City.

This is what I am thinking as a start for our itinerary so far but looking for advice please.

7/2: Land at KEF early morning (9:30am) and go straight to Blue Lagoon area
HOTEL: any advice between Northern Light Inn and Blue Lagoon Clinic??
7/3: Spend day (our anniversary) at Blue Lagoon and then leave that evening.

night of 7/3 - 7/7 morning: Looking for the most advice here please! What would be the most efficient way to get the most out of these days??? We'd like to see some scenery, maybe horseback ride, glacier tours, short hikes, scenic drives, etc

7/7 - 7/9: stay at hotel in Reyjavik near some good restaurants and nightlife. If anyone has any input on specific hotels or certain part of the city to stay, favorite restaurants, bars, or nightclubs, please let me know!

I know this is all vague but just booked flights yesterday and know very little about the country and want to get the most out of our visit.

Thanks Fodorites! Looking forward to hearing from you!

sorry a couple more things.. we were thinking about staying at a B&B or two in the middle part of the trip if anyone has a recommendation on one of those.

Also, was figuring we'd rent a car and would like to fit in a Golden Circle loop during the week but not sure logistically when would be a good time to fit this in. Thank you!!

The Radisson Blu 1919 is in the nightclub district. The Radisson Blu Saga is near (or maybe on) the University of Iceland grounds. You could walk to the nightclubs from there.
You can walk almost everywhere actually.

The Hotel Leifur Eiriksson across the road from the Hallgrimskirkja seemed like a good location to a friend and I on our trip last year. It's not far to restaurants and coffee spots.

We stayed at the Loftleidir which is about 15 minutes walking to downtown through residential neighbourhoods (the hotel had bikes for rent), it's situated at the domestic airport which closes at 11 pm. It was part of a 4-day package and we were happy with it (the included breakfast buffet was good) but would have enjoyed being closer to restaurants, coffee shops and the shopping district.

Central Reykjavik is compact so you can walk almost everywhere although I did take the local transit to the suburbs just to see them when my friend was off whale watching.

We went in May and lucked out on great weather - it never got very dark either so we could go for walks late at night - in July when you're there, I suppose the sun shines all the time.

Almost all hotels wich are marked downtown are short walk away from town, I would also recommend leifur eiriksson, I staid at Fron and it was a good choice and a fair price.
I prefer staying in reykjavik over keflavik any day. I would rather go to the blue lagoon when you land and go straight to reykjavik and stay there... but that is just my advice, since you have 7 days i would use them well. To get the most out of your trip I would rent a car and also buy some tours. Renting a car is fairly expensive but you can get good prices at www.comparecarrentals.is, also if you want to book a tour then i booked with www.adventures.is, they have everything you want. I would prebook because they sometime raise the prices when you get there.
The golden circle is just a half day max so you can do alot more that day, I would recommend either going to snaefellsnes peninsula and stay there for couple of nights,
I toot a ferry to a small Island called flatey and it is amazing, there is just a small town there and its like it from 1900 or something.

About eating and going out they have many good restaurants such as the fishmarket and more, i dont remember the names. I got a lot of help from the comparecarrental.is and even got me a better deal on alot of things.

Hope this helpes, if you have any more questions you can mail me at [email protected] and i will try to help you .

Two things:

1. the night will be very short while you are there, so you can cram more into a day if you don't wind up crashing.

2. the price of alcohol is pretty stiff. If you like a nightcap or drink before dinner, you will not be sorry if you brought in your legal maximum.

I suggest you do the Blue Pool at the end of the trip while going back to the airport. Try a spa a day as you work your way around island.

I'd but tours early the guys will give you loads of background that make the rest of the visit more interesting, it is an extra ordinary culture.

We discovered the hard way that trialing the horse gait was painful, after a couple of hours lying down we went to a spa and then back to bed so you may want to plan this in, we stayed at the stables hotel.
