Morning in Montreux
I am in Montreux for work at the moment for work (I know I have a horrible job!). I have to leave at 2 pm to go to the airport and would like to do something fun for the final morning. I have been here before and have seen the Chillon castle, the vineyards (But only a little bit and might be willing to do this again), the trip up the mountains (on the marmot train, roche de naye??). I liked them all, but am looking for something else. It should not take me too far, because I really cannot miss the flight back home. I am willing to start very early in the morning.

Hi Nuut,
Yeh lousy job!! What fun. I bet it's lovely there right now!
Have you spent any time in Vevey? Or in Villeneuve? One of my favorite things to do is to just spend hours walking along the lake, and walking from Villeneuve past Chillon to Montreux is a favorite, and again from La Tour-de-Peilz to Vevey is another. Then wandering the tangled streets of Vevey's old town, have lunch at Le Mazot. Wonderful.
Alternately, you could spend a few hours in Morges (Audrey Hepburn chose to live in a nearby town; that's how nice it is there). Morges has a tulip festival about now, I think. It has a lakeside park, a cobblestone pedestrian street lined with the best boutiques, and more flowers along its lakeside promenade. It's about a 10-minute walk to the center of the town from the train station, all lovely.
Or, have you spent any time in the old town? Views from the church up there are wonderful.
Anyway, have fun!

Ok, and something really crazy. I shouldn't even mention it. Take the train for 1h30 to Gstaad, at the very edge of the Berner Oberland. It's a really lovely little town nestled among beautiful rolling hills, will give you a great contrast to what you've seen along the lake. I only mention it because you say you'd be willing to start very early in the morning -- so go to Gstaad, have a late breakfast somewhere, then head back. Lovely scenery.
Good luck choosing!

What day of the week is the 'final morning'? I love the open air/street farmers markets. They happen in Vevey Tues & Sat and Montreux on Friday. As above, have you walked up the cobblestone road into the Old Town area of Montreux?
