Closest commercial airport to Salmon, Idaho

My husband is planning on running a marathon in Salmon, Idaho in September and we have decided to make a family trip out of it. I am looking into flights right now and would love some advice on which airport to fly into. TripAdvisor suggests Helena, MT. Looking at Google Maps it appears that Missoula and Idaho Falls are close as well. Has anyone flown to any of these cities and then driven to Salmon? If so, I'd appreciate any suggestions you have for travel arrangements.

Thanks,
A

Yes, Missoula and Idaho Falls both have commercial airports. Butte MT is another option. But regardless of which you choose, you'll have a drive of 2 hours or more.

Thank you passerbye for your response. Plane tickets are really expensive to all of the options - hubby may have to pick a different marathon in an easier to get to location!

For longer drives (6 hrs) but possibly lower airfares, Boise and Salt Lake City might be worth a look. The longer drives would probably require an additional day or two; that may be ok for a week's trip but not so good if time is more limited. Perhaps it would depend on how many air passengers you are.

Thanks for the replies. Hubby is going to run the Boulder, CO marathon instead - easier to get to and we can stay with friends. Salmon looks lovely, but too difficult to get to for just a quick weekend.
