Cap Juluca and Le Toiny

Hi! My husband and I are planning an 8-night trip to the Caribbean, and we're trying to decide between either spending all 8 nights at Cap Juluca, or spending 4 at Cap Juluca and 4 at Le Toiny. We have a few questions, and we would appreciate any advice this group can offer!

1. Has anyone experienced the pool at Cap Juluca? Is it nice? My husband and I love to sit out at the beach, but swim in the pool rather than the ocean. Could you swim laps in the Cap Juluca pool?

2. Realizing that Cap Juluca just went through a large renovation, have the rooms been improved at all? Are the rooms nice, or just ok?

3. At Le Toiny, is it disappointing that you're not right on the beach? Is it a pain to have to pack up beach chairs, towels, etc to go visit the various beaches on the island?

4. Is it difficult to get to St. Barth's from Anguilla, or is it no big deal?

Thanks so much!

The pool at Cap is nothing special. It's just a pool and is rarely used by guests and as such, it's perfect for swimming laps. If, on the other hand you are looking for a decorative pool, with waterfalls, slides and a swim-up bar then yiou'll be very disappointed.

Yes, it's somewhat difficult to get to St. Barth's from Anguilla. Unless you go by a private charter plane (read expensive) you'll first have to make your way to St. Martin. From there you can go by air (about 15 minute flight) on one of several commuter flights (small planes) or by ferry. One one of caution, the ferry crosses some open water and the ride TO St. Barth's goes "up wind" and can be quite rough. The ferry is nicknamed the "vomit comet" for a good reasn. If you are the least bit prone to seasickness you'd be much better off flying.

Sorry, can't comment on the renovated rooms at CJ since our last visit was before the renovations. What I can tell you is during our visit we found the rooms nice but not spectacular.

I can't comment about whether or not you'd be disappointed at Le Toiny because it's not on the beach. Honestly, that's a personal decision and just because one person has to be "on the beach" doesn't mean everyone feels the same way. It really depends on what YOU WANT.

Hope this helps.

Unless the pool at CJ has been part of the renovations, it is nothing special whatsoever. The beach is so gorgeous though, we didn't miss it= and we like hanging out at the pool and the beach.

I read somewhere that the renovations did NOT include the rooms. That said, we were there 2 years ago and thought the rooms were more than fine-- i was so nervous having read the reviews, but the rooms were very nice.

My personal opinion is you are better off spending all 8 nights at Cap. I just think it would be too much of a hassle having to pack everything up during the week and then ferry to St. Martin and then fly to St. Barts. Cap has everything you want and more and is beautiful. Besides, the people on the island or so delightful you won't want to miss it.

Thanks to all of you for your replies! They were very helpful. We decided to spend the entire week at CJ this time -- and we booked everything today! We decided we will just have to plan a second trip for either the fall or next spring to visit St. Barts .
