HI..need help quickly..driving from Green Bay, WI to Phoenix, AZ Dec 31.
What is best driving route and is 10 hours per day driving feasible. We are thinking of Des Moines, Kansas City, Okal.City, etc. or a more southerly route, St. Louis, Springfield, Mo, etc. Weather
looks good for either route. Does anyone have specifc directions they are willing to share. We are thinking of either a 2 night or 3 night trip.

Glenice, don't have specific directions for you. We are leaving MN on Dec.30, will go Des Moines, KC, Wichita and head west out of Wichita on 54 to Santa Rosa, NM. Because we are heading for Tucson, we will then head south. Last year, we did KC to Oka. City, then west. Weather looks good so trying something different this year. If weather was a factor we would stay on freeway. We did 3 nights last year, made lots of stops to enjoy things we wanted to see. Will do two nights this year, driving 9+ hours a day.(only one driver) I would think 10 hour driving if you have two drivers would not be a problem. We stop every couple of hours or so, just to get out, sometimes only for 5 minutes for a walk around the car. We have friends that both drive who do 12-13 hour days.

We drive from near Milwaukee to south Tucson every winter. We have two drivers and figure a total of 28 hours so we do two nights on the road with 10/10 and 8 hours per day if the weather is good. Our first night is Springfield, MO, the second is Santa Rosa, NM, and then Az on the final day. We head south in NM and then cut over to Tucson, but you would stay on Highway 40 to 17. AAA has routed us to Phoenix on 40 to 377 which is not interstate but more interesting scenery. We have done the trip in two 14 hour days when the weather and roads were excellent. Have also used Mapquest and GPS directions with no trouble. We have seen the sights enroute and are just eager to get to the warm weather so the trip down is always a pleasure (unless the weather is bad). After our recent WI weather, you will really enjoy Phoenix's weather!

Mileage difference is minimal between going through Des Moines or St. Louis. St. Louis is about 60 miles shorter, but you have to go around Chicago as well as St. Louis; plus I-44 across MO has more hills.

If weather is fine on the Des Moines/KC route, I'll take that one instead.

Some toll on either route, but not that much either way.

It's about 2,000 miles. If you drive 10 hours a day and weather is fine, you can do it with just 2 nights.
