day trips around Jacksonville FL?

Hello I am going to Jacksonville this week for 4 days. Can anyone reccomend some good day trips? We are going to Orlando one day. Is St Augustine nice? Or Daytona? I am 19 and my friend I am going with is 22. Any help would be appreciated

If you want the beach, skip Jax and Atlantic Beach. Head north to Little Talbot Island. And if you want some history, keep heading north to Fernandina. Ft Clinch is there. It's an old fort that overlooks the ocean.

St Augustine is worth a day trip. Do a search on this site and you'll find lots of comments.

IMO, Daytona has nothing to offer.

Although I rarely disagree with the Captain, given your ages I would suggest that you might have more fun in Daytona Bch than St Augustine. I agree that St. Augustine is "nicer" but Daytona caters more towards a younger crowd; St. Aug. is pretty sleepy. But then again, Denise and her friend may be more mature than I was at that age!
Also, Kennedy Space Center is day-trip distance if you are into that kind of thing, and Marineland (a small aquarium) is very near St Augustine.

I personally hate Jax so any excuse to get out of that town is a good one. Please consider St. Augustine. I have been visiting there since I was in college and love it.

St. Augustine has the historical area, cool shopping, and the beach.

http://www.staugustine.com/ is a helpful website.

If you like walking, beaches, forests, wild horses and other animals, and a true adventure, I suggest a day on Cumberland Island. The ferry leaves at 9 AM from St. Marys, Georgia, which is 30 to 45 minutes from Jacksonville, and deposits you at Cumberland Island, the southernmost and largest barrier island in Georgia. (JFK Jr got married there)

But once you get there it's all walking. Your reward is seeing ruins, all kinds of animals, and the emptiest beach you'll ever see.

There's a great tour company out of the Palm Coast / Daytona Area that also does trips all over Florida including as well as in Jacksonville and surrounding areas - Vivo Tours. Give them a call or see them on the web.
